Do the New Orleans Saints have 2 of the top 10 GMs in the NFL? (1 Viewer)

Hear me out here, but listening to the radio today I heard someone comment that the Saints have a top 3 GM in the NFL. Given what this team has done with the cap and talent evaluation, I believe this “GM” thing is more than one guy, as Loomis is but a part of a larger machine (but I will still give him credit for knowing his place, and not trying to be a chef when he is a waiter).

But now that I think about it, if you were to divvy up duties (Loomis handles the cap, Ireland handles the talent evaluation), do the Saints have 2 of the top 10 gms in the NFL?

Loomis has been masterful with how he has handle cap purgatory and making trades on the teams behalf. You could argue that nobody in the NFL has done it better than the CPA from Oregon.

Ireland has done a masterful job of securing talent for this team. Since his onboarding no other NFL team has drafted or signed UDFA’s
of such high quality as the Saints. Perhaps it’s my bias showing, but the man has turned chicken sheet into chicken salad so much that none of us know what we are eating anymore.

With all that said, could we potentially lose Ireland this offseason due to how amazing he is, or would we make a internal move to keep him here?

Sh, we don't want to lose Ireland but we can't stop it if a team offers him the GM title. I'm sure at a certain point he will want to be the top guy but until then all we can do is grossly overpay him.

I think what's make us elite from a front office standpoint is that we don't try to do an All in One person at GM with maybe a couple of assistants. Managing the scouting, personnel, cap, and operations is just too much to be amazing any one thing for one person. Ireland has full control of scouting.. Loomis watchs personnel and operations. We got our cap wizard too.

The Saints success comes from everyone from the top of the organization on down being all on the same page. When it comes to personnel, Coach Payton has a certain "type" he's looking for at each position that makes his system work . Ireland is able to find that "type" whether its in rounds 1-7 round or UDFA or a bargain/middle tier free agent. Then Loomis is able to make it work money wise. Go look at the teams you consistently see drafting at the top of the draft and I bet will see a lack of synergy somewhere in the chain from the top of the organization on down.

Assistants sure, but we really have top level guys with little overhead or micromanaging.
