It seems this offense is full of playmakers as well as high priced stars(if not now, they will be soon). So with all the talent, do we really need a top-notch receiving TE that everyone on here keeps calling for? I just can't see us wanting to spend a lot of money on a position that won't get a ton of touches. We have explosive weapons but we can't have them at every offensive position.

I think so. Too many dropped balls at the TE option. Maybe we don't need an Antonio Gates-level TE, but someone at least average to above average could be a nice, reliable compliment.

It's a good question...I'd love to see a good pass catching TE with the Saints, but there are only so many catches to go around.

I don't think we have enough touches to incorporate a Pro-Bowl level TE. We barely have enough touches for the Pro Bowl players we have now (when they're all healthy).

Someone solid would be suffecient. A guy who can block, is a big target, clutch hands. Think Heath Miller in Pittsburgh, Jason Witten in Dallas, Dallas Clark Indy.

I think an upgrade from what we have now will do nicely. I'd be happy with a FA pickup or a young draft pick in the 4th or 5th round.

We can't spend much money on TE, we have to much money invested on the rest of the offense.

I don't think we need one that is top notch, just one that will make those simple catches. Earlier in the year I was hoping we would target Gonzalez (sp?) in FA but after watching the team all year I think that would be overkill at the TE position for us. I still would like to see an every down TE who can be relied on to make 2-3 easy catches per game however.

But you know Gonzalez is an interesting idea. I discussed this with someone else, considering where Gonzalez is in his career, he may be a reasonable possibility. He's an solid and committed blocker. He's already in the Hall of Fame with all of the TE numbers you can get, so stats might not be a concern. And playing with Drew Brees and Sean Payton on a winning team.... I never thought i'd get to say this but he's a guy who may want a Super Bowl and we may offer one of the better shots at it. It'll be a question of pricing I suspect.

I think a draft pick at TE would be fine....some big boy to clear out the middle. We need a little help on LB. If we could get some John Lynch, Jason....(I just blanked his name.....the guy in Miami). That would be good.

I have to agree with a couple of the post, we dont need a Pro Bowl "recieving" tightend, we need a blocker who can catch, a Heath Miller a Bubba Franks, not so much a Shockey or Gonzalez someone who will complain when they dont get the ball, we need a blocker first who can release for a pass, we have Miller who is a recieving threat and Campbell who is the blocker who can also catch and you see how the passing game and running game works with those guys, in 2tightend miller is offset so he can get a good release and Campbell is kept in sometimes to block or is released on a 3-4yrd hook play which holds the linebacker and lets a player like Colston or Horn get in the middle of the defense....I digress....we need a capable tightend a hard worker we could be just fine with Campbell and Miller combo.

I wouldn't mind us upgrading the TE position next year but right now I think we're ok with what we have. As long as we have Horn & Colston on the outside and Deuce & Reggie at RB, that provides plenty of weapons - more than a defense can defend. It's bound to leave a TE wide open up the seam a few times a game and if we can get one of these guys to catch consistently it will make us that much better. Billy Miller was at one time known as a pretty good receiving TE, so maybe the more he plays the more effective that position will be.

Daniel Graham is a UFA after this season and with Ben Watson established I dont see New England giving him a lot of money. Graham is a good blocker, can catch the occacsional pass, and is a red zone threat. If they could get a guy like him I would be pumped. I don't think he would be a big ticket guy either.

Another possibility is Eric Johnson of the 49ers. He's a UFA and is a good receiver. I am not sure of his blocking skills and his health is a big question mark.
