We really don't retire numbers, but for a team called the Saints is it blasphemy? I was never really comfortable seeing another linebacker wearing #57...

I can't see him doing that. I think he has judgment issues if he does.

Why not?

I don't see people whining about Vilma snagging 51...

Years ago Chip Lohmiller, a kicker who attempted to replace Morten Andersen, asked for #8 (his number from the Redskins) and was told that the number was "unavailable".

My prediction is that it will remain "unavailable" until we have 98 players on the roster. Yes, no other player in Saints history will be bestowed that honor, either.

Maybe one day when Peyton or Eli has a kid and we draft him, then we could have a #8 Manning again.

He should not wear #8. I do not like anyone wearing #57 either, but we fall into that problem with the limited numbers that LBs wear I guess. Those are the two numbers that should be "retired" IMO.

Maybe we should honor some guys like Mills, but retiring a number is kind of yesterday's thing to do. With all of these rules as to who can wear what number, it's just not feasible. If you retire Mills, you have to retire Johnson, Swilling, Jackson, Wayne Martin (most underrated player in Saints history).

Brunell shouldn't get 8 because we retired it and we should honor that.

Guys!!! Its a freaking number.... Let him wear it...

Archie Manning is so 1980.... He was a good QB, but #8 is just a number...

I would not let him wear it for his own sake. I can't imagine the hell he would catch for wearing that number if he is called upon to play and performs poorly.

No to number 8...that's sacred. Archie was the franchise for many years... 57 technically isn't retired, mainly because of the NFL's numbering system that requires LBs in the 50s or the 90s. We also retired 31( Jim Taylor) and 81 (Doug Atkins), but those has been used in recent years. 8 can be reserved because you only NEED those numbers for QB's and K's. But since every WR wants to wear 11-19 now, who knows.

I predict he will wear #11 or # 6.

My bad, I did not realize any LB had weared 57 since Jackson weared it.
