Does Drew Brees make Sean Payton... (1 Viewer)

Starr + Lombardi, Bradshaw + Noll, Staubach + Landry, Montana + Walsh, Aikman + Johnson, Brady + Belicheck, Manning + Dungy, Brees + Payton (still a bit of legacy to leave on this one).

When a QB and his head coach fully understand and trust each other, amazing things can happen. It is the combination of the two that makes it happen.

Sean and Drew are both exceptional. They could succeed with others. Drew made the pro bowl with MARTY Schottenheimer as HC... Not even Montana made the pro bowl when he played for Marty. I think Sean would do very well with Peyton Manning (not Eli), or Rodgers, or Orton or Brady or even Romo.

Drew fits with Sean very well, but would work great with a coach like Belichick or Ryan or Turner -- guys with aggression, innovation and brains.

Still, it is unusual to get two folks as well suited as Sean and Drew. And they came at the same time and built a championship caliber team together... I would guess it will be very hard for Sean, if Drew doesn't know when to retire (in ten years or so).

they're like Starsky and Hutch or bo and luke duke......they compliment each other and neither would have a hit tv show without the other.

It goes both ways. It's rare you get a Coach and QB that are so in sync. Drew thrives on Sean's Play Calling and Sean's playcalling can be so complex because of Drew's accuracy and intelligence.

Some things are just better together.

It works both ways. Drew is an amazing QB, but Payton provides an offense to put up gaudy numbers.

Hopefully we're debating this for years as we try to figure out who deserves the most credit for our multiple Lombardi's. I would love to be having the debate that 49ers fans have about Montana/Walsh, or that Broncos fans have about Elway/Shanahan ten years from now.

What Kevin said.

What would BIll Walsh be without Joe Montana or BIll Belichick without Tom Brady?
a great qB makes up for coaching deficiencies, but it takes a great coach to do what Payton has done. BUt he likely couldnt have done it with someone like Jason Campbell.
