This is a solid take, and I agree. Good coaches adjust their offense to fit the strengths of their roster. There are two variables: scheme and players.
Neither Lombardi nor Brady ran exactly te same offense as Payton.
Brady prioritizes the work of McCaffrey, as a way to protect his quarterback.
Lombardi, with a much better quarterback, uses the long ball even more than Payton, and Aaron Stecker is a good versatile running back, but not at the level of McCaffrey or Kamara.
The Chargers have the best QB of the 3 teams, and also the best 1-2 punch at WR (Allen and Williams)… the Chargers also have the best TE in Jared Cook (but that’s not saying much). Ekeler/Stecker is a very good pass catching RB as well, so the Bolts have weapons.
The Panthers run everything through CMC, but their WRs are also very solid… DJ Moore is underrated and Anderson is a true burner. Right now, Darnold is the 2nd best QB of the 3 teams.
The Saints have the best OL of the 3 teams, but currently have the worst WR group and TE. Kamara is the best RB (all around) of the 3 teams, so it makes sense for them to run things through AK. At this point, Winston would be the 3rd QB out of the 3 teams. Payton though… knows the offense better than Lombardi and/or Brady.
