The Dome Patrol was a 2 gap 3-4.

In the 2 gap 3-4...you have 3 bigger down linemen that occupy 5 offensive linemen freeing up the linebackers to charge the gaps and the edges with less resistance.

Old man football, one-gap style | Get The Picture

Fangio is a disciple of current Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator Dom Capers, and the system the Cardinal runs is really an adaptation of what the Steelers, Packers, and other “one-gap” 3-4 teams do. (To oversimplify, “one gap” means each defensive player is responsible for a gap between offensive players, while a “two-gap” system — which is more common for 3-4 defenses — requires defensive linemen to attack blockers instead of gaps and control gaps to either side while the linebackers are free to roam.)

Also ive seen several Diagrams of the SF defense and they all seem to attack 1 gap. With the NT sometimes responsible for 2.

San Fran plays a lot more man behind their coverage while the UGA coach plays more off man/cover 4/ 7 styles which im sure San Fran uses@ times too.

Now what this means for the Dome Patrol im not sure but if Fangio was the coach then there is a good chance the system was a 1 gap.

Well the Saints DC from 1986-94 was Steve Sidwell.

And the guy who took over from him in 95? Monte Kiffen (just as a matter of interest).

Yeah when Jim mora decided to switch to a 4-3. Vic was linebackers coach, but wasn't capers the secondary coach when mora first came over before going to the Steelers? I don't honestly remember, although with Wayne Martin and frank warrens sack numbers I'd doubt if it was a pure 2 gap scheme.
