Am I the only one that is absolutely sick of hearing this myth?

I posted this is another thread about another player but thought this would make a good topic:

It isn't even remotely true that DRC did not dominate his level. I dont quite understand where this line of thinking has come from. The guy only got thrown at 161 times in 39 college games which is an accomplishment in itself.

Only 55 of those 161 passes were completed. 1 out of every 14 of those passes was intercepted which is sick. He gave up an average of a little over 1 pass per game. And on top of all this, his yards per pass average is 3.5 which is tops for ANY starting defensive back at every college level over the last three seasons.

How much more dominant can a corner be at ANY level?

Yes he did this against less than stellar competition but he was also playing with a very bad team. The guy then goes out and DOMINATES the best of the best at the Senior Bowl and then is lights out at the combine against his peers topping out as the top performer at his position at many drills and running a 4.27 unofficial 40 while measuring at 6-1 with a long wing span (Those don't grow on trees my friends). Former NFL players such as Rod Woodson and Deion Sanders literally were speechless and at a loss of words while watching this guy do drills.

What more can the man do?

I think this myth has come to fruition simply because most people (included myself) had not even heard of the guy during the college football season. Its not taken into account that he plays a position in which if he is doing his job, you are NOT going to hear his name often. He's not like other successful small school prospects such as a Steve McNair (a top pick out of Alcorn State) where he plays a position that if he is performing exceptionally his name will be all over the news and in a Heisman race.

I am not saying that people are wrong for knocking DRC because as amateur analysts looking at these player's from the outside we are all entitled to our own opinion...The problem I have is people that say he isn't good simply because they don't know enough about him. They think small school automatically = overhyped and bust without even doing any research on the player.

Lastly, I am tired of the "if his name was Joe Smith he wouldn't be this hyped" argument. I call bull on this. If his name wasn't Cromartie, sure his DRAFT status may be a bit different but all his name has done was helped him get discovered quicker and put more eyes on him earlier in the process. Also what his name has done has helped him get compared to his cousin who he freakishly resembles on the playing field. Both have the same long arms and speed, its uncanny.

Since most of that other thread was about this very same topic, not to mention many other threads on this forum, did this really need a separate thread?

If you don't like the thread don't click it...How's that? This is a completely different train of thought and premise from the original thread.

I was just trying to help the site save bandwith, but by all means post as many DRC threads as you possibly can. Maybe if you post enough of them the shear mass of them will make everyone agree with you. Damn the cost in bandwith. YOU have a point to make.:9:

Seconded. And as I stated in those other threads, Usama Young was just as dominant in college. And had comparable #'s in the 40, long jump, cone drill, etc. Do you think maybe Deion and Rod might be hyping him because the NFL network pays them to talk?

There is only one other DRC thread on page one of this forum and it is nothing but a pep rally about his profile. It has nothing to do with a football discussion.

The only reason you take offense to this thread is because you dont like the player.

He did but he looked lost, confused, and even bad at times at the Senior Bowl and didn't even get invited to the combine. He's no doubt a sleeper and you definitely see his potential last season. I expect him to be a quality DB in our secondary.

I disagree. Young wasn't nearly as dominant in college nor is he 6-1.

i'm confused are you hyping him or dissing him? anything is an upgrade over what we got now though and you can't argue that!

Personally, I'm not dissing him. I think he has a lot of talent. I'm just not sure that he is worth a #10 pick and I'm sure that he isn't Jesus in cleats.

That being said, I think he has more upside than any other CB in the draft and wouldn't freak out if we drafted him at #10. But, he is a big risk because of the level of competition he played against and the level of coaching and traing he would have had. In addition, I wonder what the needed addition of 10 to 15 pounds will do to his speed and quickness.

When did I say I don't like him? See my post above.

Beyond that, there is more than one page on this site and if you wanted to continue the same discussion why didn't you just bump one of the other threads that had the same discussion going given that starting a new thread wastes bandwith?

No matter how good he is......he wont be a rookie starter. I question the threads that have him or any rookie CB coming in a making a notable difference in thier first year. Not saying we shouldn't draft him either. But there is a reason for the "anti-hype" no one knew anything about this kid till after the college season. And more importantly.....he could live up to the hype and still not be a starter in year one. That's just the way it goes with rookie corners.
I like DRC but perfer a top ten pick be someone that can play on day one and contribute....Rookie corners don't do that.

Because the original topic wasn't about this subject. You are not a moderator so quit acting like you are one.

Sorry for opening a football discussion on a football discussion forum.

Ok and while we're at it lets merge every single thread that is about the same individual. There will be another Keith Rivers thread tomorrow, another "Sedrick Ellis or Glenn Dorsey" thread tomorrow as well. But since these threads arent about a forum favorite that you seem to not care for, it wont be a problem for you.

Kinda hijacking your own thread?
