Don’t you dare blame Jameis (1 Viewer)

It’s really a simple yes or no. I didn’t say anything about him having anything to do with that. He was the starting QB at the time lol. It’s pretty simple. Correlation doesn’t equal causation, I understand that. I never said he had anything to do with it. Just stating statistical data
Sure.

Winston takes some blame. Zero points scored in the second half. How many possessions did he have 4 or 5. He's suppose to be an experienced veteran.. looked nothing like it.
Also.. the analytics coaches should be replaced.. Saints are 12-1 (or something similar) when Taysom touches the ball 7+ times a game.. how did he only have 5 and with our top two RB not playing. Beyond stupid imo.

1. Pete can’t call a game to save his life anymore. He didn’t open up the playbook until he absolutely had to , putting way too much strain on our defense and opening the door for the packers to comeback.

2. Our Offensive lineman are among the leagues worst collection of any group in the NFL.

3. Derek Carr got himself hurt holding onto the ball. He doesn’t have all day and unfortunately it seems to be effective , he needs it.

4. Jameis contrary to popular opinion started to COOK. Clutch throw after clutch throw taking us down the field for what should’ve been the game winning FG.

I’m on the record saying if Carr is going to perform this way , we are better off betting on Jameis Winston’s upside with these receivers.

What I did notice … As soon as Jameis comes in the game … A wide open Michael Thomas appears .

Again Jameis won us that game , Gruppe lost it shortly thereafter.

Do not be surprised if Jameis has to takeover for Carr , and doesn’t look back. If Geno Smith can have a resurgence, then Jameis can certainly have one with this offensive group.
How many 3 and out drives did Jameis lead? If he had just moved the ball for atleast 3 first downs in any of those possessions, Packers wouldn't have had time to score 18 points, defense wouldn't have been spent, and Saints walk away with a win. So yes, Jameis would be the primary factor in this lost today. Not the only, just primary.

If you're comparing how much they had to deal with that was the same, let's look at one key difference: number of practice reps with the first team. That's a factor as well, and Jameis was starting to warm up that last drive, which was no small feat with that offensive line.

I'd rather have Carr in there, no doubt. But Jameis went in and performed as most backup QB's would do who are thrown into the game due to an injury to the starter; it takes time to get into the rhythm, especially when the O-line is not allowing much of a rhythm to happen. I don't think he deserves any blame in this one, quite frankly. Now after a week with starter reps, then I expect more. But this week, no.
Damn reasonable response. More than the oline's play, more than the defense collapsing, more than Winston not lighting it up (even though he did take the team down into FG range at the end), the blame for this loss lies squarely on the shoulder of an unimaginative offense coordinator. This was worst than Carl Smith to me. At least they have the weapons now. PC just out there trying the play connect four on a chess board.

Derek Carr as starting QB: 17 points.

Jameis Winston as starting QB: 0 points.

Same coordinators. Same offensive line. Same receivers. Same defense. Same temperature on the field. Same wind gusts. Same astrophysical positioning of Neptune and company.

Make all the excuses you want.

The reality is that we scored 0 points with Jameis at QB. He’s not solely to blame, obviously. But he is absolutely not absolved of blame altogether either.

Edit: I know better than to edit this. Oh well. For the people Roger Goodelling me…..what did I say that was untrue?
My dear kind sir. I most humbly want to gently point out that I think you are making several strange observations since Carr had nothing to with 7 of those points and when Winston was put in they purposely decided they wanted to play small and conservative. So the comparison seems to not be accurate up until the point we blew lead. I would like to kindly point out that was when you can actually compare apples to apples because he was allowed to play, and magically we moved the ball. Unfortunately our kicker missed.

I think you must be a super intelligent and mostly brilliant person but in this one singular instance, I think your comparisons are a bit silly and moot. I hope you don’t take this as too hard a critique and complain to the moderators…

I’ll consider it

I assume Winston is our starter now.
He will put to rest the question as to his competency as an NFL quarterback during the next few games he plays.
If he is trash in his first game, will hold off making a judgment.
If he shines in his first game, will hold off making a judgment.
I am saying that if he plays 3 or more games, his true level of talent as a professional QB will be evident.
The only way this doesn't play out is if the coaches decide to play Taysom a lot more.
A LOT more -- in any position, or combination thereof.
Because they should be doing this now.
Will change the entire dynamic of the Saints offense.

Context is important here.

At that point in the game Pete Carmichael was just trying to not lose the game he felt the defense had already won.

There was a clear difference between the first few drives in body language, urgency , play calling with the last drive that Jameis drove us to what should have been the game winning field goal.

When we are going for it with Jameis it looks different. We are going deep , we are testing the defenses jaw routinely , not all this 3 yard curl bullsh

Is it ok to say neither of them impressed me. Carr held on to the ball too long on several occasions and JW came in in a very difficult situation. However, he did get us in range for a game winning field goal.
No, you must unconditionally pick one QB as your guy and fight all naysayers on the forum to death.

Jameis was not the primary reason we lost this game. Probably not the secondary reason.

Primary was playcalling. Yes, the Oline sucked. But Carr scored 17 points with the same oline that Winston did jack sheet with.
He scored 10. Nothing to do with a punt return for a td.

This sounds like a rehearsed speech knowing that eventually Carr would get hurt behind that line. Jameis had a couple of decent throws and a couple of off ones. He should be credited for not sucking horribly coming in mid game. But lets not pretend we're going to get better with him at QB going forward. The team got much worse when Carr went down.
He moved the ball well though. Thomas started getting open. It’s not his fault that Carmichael is horrible. He ran the plays called.
