-- Saints Not a Lock to Sign Samuel --
Thu Feb 28, 2008 --from FFMastermind.com

The Times-Picayune reports internet reports that the Saints are the "front-runners" to land CB Asante Samuel don't appear to be accurate. League sources have disputed those reports, one of which characterized Samuel to the Saints as a "done deal."

-- Saints Cool on Vilma --
Thu Feb 28, 2008 --from FFMastermind.com

The New York Daily News reports the Saints, one of the early teams connected with Jets LB Jonathan Vilma, don't appear to be as hot for him as once thought. They have done some homework on Vilma, but from talking to people, the impression is their interest has cooled.

-- Michael Turner Could Take a While to Sign --
Thu Feb 28, 2008 --from FFMastermind.com

The San Diego Union-Tribune reports Chargers RB Michael Turner will be a hot commodity, but he could last a while, as teams eye a draft rich in running backs and try to bring Turner's terms down. Chicago, Detroit and New Orleans are believed to have the strongest interest in him.

I also thought this was interesting...

-- Packers Tendering Offers --
Thu Feb 28, 2008 --from FFMastermind.com

The Press Gazette reports an NFL source said the Packers will place the second-round tender of $1.47 million on DT Colin Cole, meaning they'll get a second-round pick if another team signs him and they don't match. The best guess is the Packers will put the low tender of $927,000 on RB Vernand Morency, which means they'll get a pick in the round Morency was drafted (third) if another team signs him and they don't match.

Colin Cole actually took Corey Williams job last season if my memory serves me right... The only reason Williams got his job back was because Cole got hurt. Why not take a look at Cole if both guys are essentially on the block for a 2nd rounder?

I wouldnt give up a second rounder when were in position to draft a good DT...it would make sense if the DT depth in this years Draft was minimum, but its not and were in a postion to get one of the top 5 DT's in this years draft.

Even if those rumors are not true, the Saints are interested in Samuel...no way around it.

Cooling on Vilma, probably means their's def something wrong with his knee, and the Saints don't want to take a risk. Or he's not worth a 3rd round pick or 2nd.

If I were the Saints, I would wait till draft day, to make a trade...you don't know which player will be there.

I'm not sure why.... (because it would definitely mean the end of Deuce's time with the Saints... and he's my favorite player) but I really hope we sign Michael Turner.

I believe that the report by Triplett in the TP has more to do with Loomis's attempt to dismiss the rumors of the Saints having already worked out a deal with Samuel than it does with the Saints not being the frontrunners at this point to land Samuel. That's not to make a case either way but I won't be surprised if we sign him early tomorrow just as I won't be surprised if we do not sign him at all. I would, however, hate if the Saints were to back off signing him simply because they do not want to be accused of tampering.

I'd be thrilled if the Saints signed Turner. Big boy (5-10, 235) with blazing speed.

...that can catch, and has already proven that he can play at a high level in the NFL. Also, very wear and tear on the guy.

I'd most likely make a Michael Turner #33 my next jersey.

I was thinking the same thing. League sources, HA, more like 870am.

imo, we won't land any of them.
we make average splashes, not big ones.
If we do, I'll be shocked.

I'm inclined to think the same thing... Everyone wants Nate Clements, we go and get Jason David. Everyone wants Adalius Thomas, we land Brian Simmons... ect...

I find it really hard to believe that's going to change this time around... It's kind of cool to know we're interested though.

It's kinda like buying a lottery ticket... the time between buying it and the actual numbers being drawn is the best time... because you can dream about how great it would be if you won, and you still have a chance.

Maybe this year we will do something different. Maybe they have a policy of only spending big on a FA every other year. We spent a ton on Drew year before last and now he is our offensive leader. Maybe we need to spend some cash on a leader for the defense. Maybe we will.

Couldn't have said it better myself. This is the best time of the year to be a Saints fan. That hope that we will finally make some big moves is the best feeling. However I'm preparing for that underwelming feeling that I always get when the top free agents sign elsewhere, and then we all try to convince ourselves how Brian Simmons and KK will take us to the promised land.

The thing that concerns me is that I would say that no one can argue that Nate was worth the money he got in S.F. Better CB's make better Linemen, and better Linemen make better CB's. If a QB has all day he's going to find someone open no matter if your paying that CB 10 million or league min. I'd rather spend 5 million on a good man type CB and 5 million on a good DT. Then draft for depth. The more we put into one person the less depth we are going to have. Then again I could be totally wrong.
