just got around to watching episode 8. Just fantastic and sad. Only thing they really didn't get into was how it contributed to the heroin crisis that we have now. I guess they didn't want to get too far into speculation. But when they shut down the pain clinics, that is where the addicts had to turn. I was going to one of those pain clinics at around this time (03 through 05). I had legit back x-rays but it was pretty clear they weren't even needed. You just told the doctors what you wanted - just like that. Most everyone that walked out, did so with 3 scripts. Pain pills, a benzo and a muscle relaxer. I think the only thing that kept me from ending up like most was that my drug of choice was always alcohol. I don't know how much Purdue's aggressive sales tactics led to all those pop up pain clinics but clearly, from the tactics outlined in this series, they didn't have a problem with the extra income.

It makes me think of just how close I was too. I have a chronic knee condition, and the ortho I was seeing from ~08 - ~11 was just giving me an endless script for Lortabs. If I had started going just a little earlier…
(Not that being on hydrocodone for 3 straight years was a good thing)
