The media loving talking about how Brees contract hurts the Saints and Brady helps out the Patriots. After the rework of Brees contract this is update on Brees and Brady total cap number since 2006

Brees 144,977,100
Brady 145,635,000

The Saints have 24 million over charge of his contract after this year and Brady has cap overcharge of 27 million after this season.

Whats crazier is that Eli has earned more over his career than the both of them.

Also interesting that the 5th highest career earner isn't a QB but Julius Peppers.

There are things to get angry about, but what Drew and Tom make isn't one of them. Both of them have been underpaid for what they bring to their teams. Brady has earned $162m/16 season, while Drew has earned $150m/15. Its pretty much splitting hairs.

Being a high 1st round draft pick in an era of stupid high rookie contracts helps Eli. Remember, Drew as a 2nd round pick and was Franchised, and Brady was a 6th round pick.

And to be fair, there was a nice tip of the hat from the media. Most are calling it team friendly.

I had this discussion with a few folks last night at a party. You are right, Eli came in at a time (and at a pick) that allowed him to make a boat load of cash. The takeaway is that pay does not equal performance, because if it did, Drew and Brady would have career earnings over $200m. Both have been severely underpaid throughout their careers.

For the record Payton has career earnings of $249m.
