New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees, who led the team to its first Super Bowl championship, has been named the Sports Illustrated Sportsman of the Year.
With the win, Brees cemented his place in the city's sports lore. He had already set the franchise record for most passing yards in a season -- which was second all-time in the NFL at 5,069 in 2008 -- and just this season has moved ahead of Archie Manning for passing completions by a Saints quarterback.
