Drew Brees planned to play his entire career with the San Diego Chargers.
Then, he suffered a devastating shoulder injury in the 2005 season finale, and a twist of fate led him to New Orleans while Philip Rivers — the fourth overall pick in 2004 — became the franchise quarterback for the Chargers.
Naturally, Brees was upset that he wouldn't have a chance to fulfill his goal of playing out his career with one team.
"It was a little bit of a shock all of a sudden when it's going down, and I realized that they expect me to come back and be a backup," he said. "And it's like, well, that's not who I am.
