HOUSTON -- Throughout the 2016 season, Drew Brees said he thought the New Orleans Saints were an ascending team.
After starting 0-3, though, they could really only go up, and despite eventually bouncing back to 4-4, the Saints never eclipsed the .500 mark before finishing 7-9 for a third straight season.
New Orleans has dealt with the same story for the past three seasons. In 2015, the team started 0-3, too, and a 4-4 mark proved to be the best of the year. In 2014, it was a 1-3 hole out of which the Saints had to climb, but 4-4 was the highlight of the season once again.
As the Saints look for ways to make their return to the postseason, Brees said one key is to avoid the early struggles that force the team to play from a difficult position for the rest of the season....
