Apparently, Drew Brees is at least willing to listen to the New Orleans Saints about possibly restructuring his contract to give the team salary cap relief.
When asked by WWL-AM if he might be open to restructuring his contract in a similar fashion to the way Patriots quarterback Tom Brady's new contract is constructed, the Saints quarterback said, "I am always willing to consider anything that will help the team or the cap situation."
Brees' salary cap figure for 2013 is $17.4 million, which is the highest on the Saints roster. Of course, Brees' salary cap figure jumps significantly the following three seasons -- $18.4 million in 2014, $26.4 million in 2015, $27.4 million in 2016.
The Saints will likely continue to work on contract restructuring with players leading up to free agency, but it's unclear if the Saints have approached Brees to re-work the deal he signed less than a year ago. It's never completely clear just how far over the salary cap the Saints sit as of Wednesday, but it's likely the Saints still have work to do financially
