Drew knew it all along ( My Conspiracy Theory ) Long Read (1 Viewer)

Drew with "tremendous amounts of respect" for Jameis seems like a bit of stretch to me.

Too many off the field character issues. I hope he writes a new life chapter in NOLA, but as of yet he hasnt earned much. I hope he can couple his on field ability with maturity and off the field actions.

I think Jameis was the right choice and I will root for him, but when I do it feels a little awkward (at least for now).

What "many" character issues? Only 2 really comes to mind, with the FSU thing having too many inconsistencies when you look at the details and with the Uber thing, the only people that really knows what happened in that car was those 2. That being said, the only reason it feels recent is because she sued him 2 years after the drive. Dude has pretty clean and under the radar for like 5 years. lol. It looks like he actually has the respect of the locker room and it felt like that last year too.

Coming to New Orleans didn't change him and this isn't anything recent. He has been like that because we know all of the work he has been putting in back in Birmingham and I read that he did a lot in Tampa that media swept under the rug.

Sigh, I really don't get the negativity here....

Just like the false "he got paid and stop performing" narratives that are thrown around his off-the-field issues are really nonexistent. He's made mistakes but the crab legs jokes keep following him. Nice piece on his growth:

Let's go back to the season before last when Drew goes down. Teddy Bridgewater steps in and looks competent.
Goes 5-0 and essentially plays his way out of New Orleans. The cap situation meant someone had to go , and it
was Teddy. Around this time Sean was hinting about Taysom's " Steve Young " like potential , so Sean felt validated in
keeping Taysom and letting Carolina walk off with Bridgewater. Sean knows though , he may have just lost what could've
been the future franchise QB. But we were in " WIN NOW " mode and we were very much so living in the moment. Plus Drew
not retiring changes things.

1. Brady doesn't come to NOLA ends up going to Tampa ( We didn't know at the time )
2. Bridgewater takes his chances elsewhere knowing Drew will be back and the iron was hot for him to strike a starting QB gig somewhere.
3. Because Brady ends up going to Tampa , Tampa in turn releases Jameis Winston who in turn signs with , us.

Now things get all jacked up in 2020 , but Jameis becomes a Saint , and Drew takes a liking to him. Drew has tremendous amounts of respect and Jameis has
the same if not more for Drew in addition to adoration. Jameis Winston put his “ego aside” to get “Harvard education” in QB play. That's what him coming here
was supposed to be about. Learn and leave , like Teddy did. My guess is it didn't take too long to before Drew and Sean realized how special he was. Not starter
special. HOF special. Drew constantly mentors him , Taysom grows a bit jealous. He want's to be seen as a QB and Sean won't stop bringing in guys that are better
than him. Around this time , Taysom drops the " If the Saints don't view me as QB 'then I have to leave " statement. It was getting to him.

Drew goes down again , Seans instincts tell him to put Jameis in. If Taysom was the guy , this is where he would've gotten the nod. But deep in Sean's heart he knew
what he had just found. His future QB. He needed someone in the game against the 9'ers that wasn't going to cost us postseason seeding. Jameis righted the ship.
Played okay.

I'm pretty sure Sean and Mickey Loomis had a good talk about who would take the mantle for Drew while he was out. From this point forward , it was a chess game.
They had just dealt with exposing a rehabbed QB to the NFL world and lost him , they didn't want to repeat last seasons mistakes. Plus , Sean had to see what it was
he truly had at hand in Taysom Hill. Sean wasn't about to lose another Franchise QB by tipping his hand too early. The end of the season approaches , Tampa comes
to the dome. Their suffocating Defense makes a battered , still recovering aged Drew Brees struggle. Sean doesn't want to just give up his season. Jameis comes in ,
Drops a dime on his old team. Sean's a smart smart man. This was foreshadowing. This was him acknowledging the musical chairs that had just taken place , and his way
of reminding the Bucs that although they might win now , He took their future from them
. A small part of me thinks Sean wanted to play Jameis but Drew was an
absolute warrior and he let him go out on his shield. What a legend. ( Miss you Drew )

Drew looks at Jameis on the sideline and nobody knows what was said , But Drew Knew. Drew knew the whole time.

Drew walks towards the tunnel one last time , gives the dome a second look. If Jameis Winston weren't here , I bet he'd have returned. But he knows it's his time. He knows
Jameis's time.

Fast forward to training camp. As predicted , the former Heisman winning , #1 overall pick , former Pro Bowl QB in his prime , beat out the older athlete who can throw.

How ironic it is , that we only ended up with Jameis because Drew wanted another try ? Of all the things this man has given us , his last gift might end up being the greatest.
His successor.
Man, that was a pretty good post. I hope its true.

How does all of this play into when we get Russell Wilson next year?
At this point - ONLY if Jameis crashes and burns towards the end of the year. If he plays the rest of the season the way he played Sunday - he'll stay.

I just hope that when JW does have a bad game, and he will because even HOFers have them, everyone doesn't jump the gun on bashing him. If he plays this season and has numbers that rank him in the Top 5 QB list, I will be ecstatic. If he "only" gets in the Top 10, I'll be overjoyed.

Absolutely. Even Drew had a 5 (!) int game, not to mention a couple of 4 int and quite a few 3 int games in his career. Still, I expect we'll see "Look! The real Jameis is back!" posts after his very first bad game.

Interestingly, it seems that Drew didn't really get stingy with the ball until the 5 interception game against the Falcons in 2012. Winston may actually benefit from that experience by Drew. He seems to take Drew's philosophy as gospel, and Drew's stinginess seems to be a big part of the message Drew is imparting on JW.

He will and I fully expect the anti-Jameis mob to return in full force calling for any of the following: put in TH, we need start grooming Book, or let's just draft a top-notch QB next year. That's why I emphasize it was just one game and I still don't like the throw that should have been a pick.

Actually, that's an interesting open question. Totally hypothetical, but if Winston plays great and the Saints go 12-5 or something like that, but landing Wilson is doable, do you jettison Winston and take Wilson? I'm not sure that you don't. Winston can be good but Wilson can be MVP good, and doesn't have the baggage.

Not saying I know what I would do, just that it's interesting.

Well, Shane Waldron is getting much praise from Russ and the receivers out there. Apparently, he’s letting Russ have input in the offense. Which is clearly understandable, but if all goes well out there, then I can see Russ staying. If things goes South, then that’s another story for later on in the year.
