Drew has now passed Archie as all-time passing leader for the Saint's,

Drew = 21,932 yds passing after today (5th season)

Archie = 21,734 yds passing (10 seasons)

I never got to see Archie play much at all. I know archie was good and wasn't on great teams, but what Drew has done is unbelievable. Ain't no telling how high the records will be set when he is through playing. Congrats Drew on all the accomplishments and a sincere thanks from all the WHO DATS!!

Is sack yardage taken off a quarterback's stats? If so, maybe Drew has more than that. I don't know if they kept sack stats in Archie's day, but he would have a ton more yards. Seemed like he was sacked 4 times a game at least. I know they take the sacks into the overall passing yardage, but don't know about individual stats. Congrats nevertheless Drew.

Archie was horrible. I mean it was painful to watch. He just ran around and flung the ball errantly.
I never saw him once execute a play the way Drew executes.

That said, part of his problems were a result of bad coaching and bad OL. Still though Archie never looked good and I believe good QB's look good no matter what the situation.

Drew deserves every single record on the books and then some.

I guess you only watched him in his last few seasons.

Brees taking over the record is well deserved but don't run Archie down. He was a good QB on some very bad teams. If you put Brees behind Archie's shaky OLs, with his stone handed receivers, and coked up RBs the results wouldn't be much better. Maybe worse because Brees doesn't have Archie's moblity. Would have been incredible to see what Payton could do with Archie.

The reason Archie was running around was because he was running for his life most of the time. He'd have 11 big dudes chasing him. Poor Archie didn't have an O Line, but he often had a Zero Line.

Sacks are taken off rushing yards, not passing. Pretty sure Brees still comes out ahead but I'm not going to do the math on it.

It's not so much "running Archie down" as it is recognizing that Brees was clearly the best QB ever to play for the Saints.

I was just a young lad when Archie was drafted. He was running for his life much of the time he was here before being unceremoniously traded to the Houston Oilers for Leon Gray and a washed up Earl Campbell. He left the obscurity of an abysmal team in the Saints to a bad team in Houston, then another bad team in Minnesota. His career stats with the Saints were achieved in spite of the lack of an offensive line, running for his life on just about every pass attempt, and running not only with drugged up running backs, but roided up defensive linemen. Can't compare the two eras but I'd venture to guess that Manning would be very successful in Payton's offense, perhaps dare I say, more than Brees due to his height and scrambling ability. He certainly had the cerebral part of the game down, at least he knew when to duck to avoid the really hard hits. lol
