Drivers survive jaw-dropping F3 crash (1 Viewer)

My wife saw it and sighed, "Why did it have to be the one woman driver out there?"

Our couch isn't very comfortable so I didn't reply.

Looking at that last shot allows you to really see what happened. She was flying down the inside of the lane before the turn, so she either had some major mechanical issues or she had right next to no awareness / knowledge of the course layout. It's amazing that she made it out alive. The Lord was definitely watching over her on that one.

Looks like her car was already heavily damaged going into the turn.

Probably the best outcome was going airborne over the wall. That wall isn't designed to have a high speed head on impact.

The “wall” is actually a series of energy absorbing layers. They do a very good job with impact at all angles. Soft walls are probably the best safety innovation in auto racing in the last 30 years.

Maybe all walls should be made of scaffolding with soft fluid filled bags of humans now. Glad she made it.

they run the course for days in advance, so she knew the layout.

she had no braking because her car never slowed.

that was absolutely terrifying.

Yeah, the drivers know the course. Not only do they have substantial practice runs prior to the race, they also spend hours on simulators.

The Macau course (Guia Circuit) is even on some popular racing video games.
