The interminable NFL offseason -- 221 days long this year for those of you keeping score at home -- is about to end.

With its conclusion comes a long list of statistical and historical storylines that we'll be watching throughout the 2009 season -- from Jay Cutler's chances to rewrite Bears history, to the effort of underappreciated Darren Sharper to give the Saints a fighting chance at the playoffs......

Sharper was a long-time fixture in the NFC North, where he played for the Packers and Vikings. The 13-year safety moves on to New Orleans this year as perhaps the most underappreciated defender of our time....

Wow, what a diference a year makes. We actually have a FS that is being mentioned in the same breath on Aenius Williams, Rodney Harrison and Rod Woodson, unbelievable. DS hasnt missed a game in 3 years, I hope that trend continues. I think we all have him underrated and I believe he is looking to prove he still has what it takes to lead a team. You couldnt ask for better pros as your leaders in him and Vilma.

Great find. Thanks for the link. I especially liked the bit on Mangini at the end. Offensive woes like that, and you trade away Winslow, and shop Edwards? Mangini and McDaniels sure like to cut off the nose to spite the face.

Thanks Wahoo! It's refreshing that most of the times that announcers have mentioned the SAINTS safeties, it's on a good play. We've seen very little of the safety abuse that was rampant these last few seasons.
