Elon Musk makes $43 Billion offer for private buyout of Twitter (2 Viewers)

Nobody wants to discuss his labeling Facebook as a liberal echo chamber?
That alone seems ground for involuntary psychiatric hold

Yeah, boomerbook is a lot of things, but a liberal echo chamber it is not.

Although these days it's mostly just a hellish wasteland of bots and AI generated slop.

I think this one is a "not real but the fact you think it might be is damning in itself" thing.

It's a little too on the nose, doesn't show up in a search, and I had a quick browse of Musk's feed (not directly, via one of the Nitter frontends that still works at the moment, https://xcancel.com/ ) and couldn't see it. I saw lots of other stupidity - won't go into it as it crosses into the political, but his entire feed is a one-man "never read the comments" pit of idiocy.

And now I need something to restore any sense of hope in the state of humanity. Yeesh.

the difference is, Zuck isn't personally pushing crazy stuff from his personal account.

Zuck is having a major midlife crisis and spending all his time training BJJ and hanging with MMA fighters and cozying up to Trump, while Facebook collapses under the weight of a rapidly aging user base, being a platform flooded with bots and AI generated nonsense, etc. If you look at the state of FB right now, it almost feels like he's abandoned it. The getting rid of the fact checkers was the cherry on top, but everything from the bloated old technology that seems increasingly buggy and glitchy to the lack of caring about obvious bot accounts signals that he really doesn't give a fork about it anymore. He's content to suck whatever capital he can from the corpse and leave it at that.

Musk is killing his platform what his own despotism and insanity.

I basically use Facbook to keep up with family/friends and to sell stuff on Marketplace. thats the only 2 reasons i'm there.
i can't do either of those on Twitter, its useless to me.

Could be a question of "I'm number 1, I don't have to care" on the part of Zuckerberg.

For all the ribbing Facebook gets about being a dinosaur, it still has the most users of any social media app, over a billion more than What'sApp and Instagram. And despite all the hatred Musk gets, the number of users on X has only increased since he acquired it, though revenue has decreased (probably due to him removing so many entities that were generating revenue - my speculation).

I don't pay attention to any of it. I have accounts on Facebook, X, Instagram, and What'sApp because primadox says I should, but the only one I use occasionally is Facebook because I have to check on a group page there now and then because I have something to do with the organization that keeps that page. I don't waste my time looking at stuff that people post because I figured out years ago it's just people spouting off about nothing out of emotional knee-jerk reactions, and the vast majority of them don't know enough details about whatever subject is in question to even warrant having an opinion in the first place.

I find it really hard to even keep up with friends and family on there anymore - one post out of maybe 10 is someone I know. The rest is junk.

I used to check nearly daily just for fun, now I'm maybe once a week.

Every analysis of actual data traffic that I have seen has concluded substantially lower user counts than what Musk and X allege. And because the company is private, it cannot be verified from the inside.

For example, Musk has said the platform has over 600 million active users - whereas independent counts find a little more than half that. The company has said they have 200 to 250 million daily active users, but data traffic analysis shows its about 121 million.

I have a mostly unused account that I log into every now and then just to see what things look like. Very few of my friends and family post anything anymore. So many comments you see on things are obviously bots. And bad ones. Short, irrelevant responses. Often nonsense. Its bleak.

Yeah, nobody should be taking Musk's user numbers at face value. I promise you that Twitter is not a bigger platform now than it was at its cultural relevancy peak years ago. He's lying to save face.

I have a Facebook account that I have never really used. But over the years, I occasionally got notices about stuff that I clicked on to check in on something said by family or a friends. Years ago that would at least link me to someone I knew, but in the last few years when I get those, it doesn't even take me to stuff posted by people l know. It's just a mess of random things when I click on a link. I have now stopped even clicking on those notices as of couple years ago. I don't even know what Facebook is for anymore or if any people actually use it.

Seems like by the pandemic it had became a pretty negative experience, and then the pandemic just brought out the worst in everyone and I stopped looking at it. I've debated taking my page down (my last posting was years ago), but I do use the messenger app with some contacts.

Every once and a while I'll log in to see if my mom has posted anything, and it just looks like it's gone to sheet, with all the ads and bots. I agree with what SW said, as far as Zuck having "abandoned" it. Facebook had it's moment, he made his fortune, and he seems content to let it wither into obsolescence.

Right? On the app I find you have to click 'see more', click 'feeds', and click 'friends' just to get to a timeline that's even vaguely reasonable, and even then it doesn't work some of the time (e.g. says you're up to date and shows you nothing, even if it's the first time you've clicked on it in weeks) and is intermittently littered with ads. The main timeline is 90% unusable. Like twitter's.

I basically don't check it at all now and very rarely post. It's a far cry from the days when you had a timeline that actually showed you what people had posted, and your own page you could put apps, etc., on.

Classic enshittification (will that make it through the filter?).
