Emanuel Sanders (1 Viewer)

We had to get under the cap. We also assumed MT was on schedule to be ready for the season.

It's always cool to look back 7 months and say we should've did something differently, but the fact is that the team was way over the salary cap and had to get under the cap before the new league year. Decisions had to be made. If Sanders really wanted to be a Saint, he could've waited and resigned.

good point there

Seems we should of paid more attention to Sanders, tearing up the league with the Bills, and we would of had a no. 1 receiver the first five weeks.
He’s not top 50 in the NFL in receptions, however he is 27th in yards and 7th in TDS. Based off his receptions there’s no reason to believe he’ll end up staying in the top 10 in touchdowns. He’s also currently playing with one of the best QBs in the league with one of the most talented receivers in football taking pressure off him.

That’s hardly tearing up anything.

It’s not like we showed him any disrespect, we simply couldn’t keep him at the time.

He’s been really good at exactly what we’re missing: getting open.

He’s creating an average 2.9 yards of separation. That’s almost a half yard more than any of our current pass-catchers.

Not saying we’d be undefeated with him. But he definitely would’ve helped this current version of the offense a lot.

Possibly. Depends if any other receiver would have stepped up. If not he’d just be bracketed and we’d be in the same situation.

Saints did the right thing at the time, just unfortunate MT had his situation

Yeah, we didn’t have much choice.

But having him bracketed would’ve opened up things for the rest of the offense.

Overly simplistic to compare one player's results with one team versus another in the age of the salary cap and free agency. Unfortunately, you just can't keep everybody each year. Similar discussion yesterday in a thread about Hendrickson.
