"A float rider in the Krewe of Endymion parade died Saturday night after falling from a
double-decker float as the parade disbanded"

From a poster on NOLA:

"ok, i'm a rider in endymion, and this is what we were told happened. the float came to a stop and some people started to get off because they thought the float was stopped for good. this person was not the first to get off, but as he was getting off the float, the float began to move again and he did not make it onto the ground in time, and he fell to the ground. unfortunately the float rolled over him and a few minutes later he passed."

WDSU is reporting that the driver of the float (a 21 y/o) was charged with killing his 16 y/o brother (the one who fell off the float). Although, the story is a little confusing because the lead in says, "Marksville" though the story clearly states the incident happened in the Superdome. Maybe they are from Marksville?

Sad.

Carival Parade Float Driver Runs Over Brother

"State police spokesman Scott Moreau said Kain Sayer was booked with careless driving, first-offense drunk driving, and vehicular homicide -- that is, killing someone while driving drunk."

With all of the people around Mardi Gras parades, especially people who have been drinking and have a penchant for taking risks that normal people wouldn't, having a drunk driving a float is an extremely dangerous proposition (not that drunk driving is ever not dangerous, but there is a heightened risk with all of the people).

Problem is..is there ever a sober float driver. Drunk at Mardi Gras is acceptable by most people even if its a float driver.

I am not saying its right. But honestly how many others should have been picked up for drunk driving floats at the same parade.
