Eric Metcalf (1 Viewer)

I think it would be better to compare Eric Metcalf to Reggie Bush and not vice-versa. Metcalf, while pretty awesome in his own right, was not the player that Reggie Bush is. Eric Metcalf didn't have NFL teams making their defensive gameplan around the notion of stopping him. Metcalf was more of a WR than a RB, where Reggie is both IMO. Essentially, I think of Eric Metcalf as "a poor man's Reggie Bush."

I know some people are already starting to get down on Reggie, (which I think is absolutely ridiculous) but this kid is a weapon unlike any other to come along in a looooooong time. There's a reason that defenses continue to focus on stopping him even though he hasn't put up great stats... It's because they all know if they take their eyes off of him, they're gonna get burned!

DWD, well stated.
Expectations, what can you say. People expected Reggie to simply part the red sea, so to speak.
All Reggie did his whole career was beat people with speed and moves. Now in the NFL he's going to have to learn when to go outside and when to get what he can. I fully believe that he will learn that. But, for right now he's just running off of instincts.
Payton said he's doing good, so I'll go with him. Reggie brings so many things to the table for this team. Thankfully, with Duece, Brees, and our WR's, all Reggie has to do is work with that. This offense has been very successful so far this year and Reggie's playing a part in that. As long as we win, that's what matters.

Boutte's Terry Metcalf comment is spot on. Metcalf was a three-time Pro Bowler for the [St. Louis] Cardinals in a very short career in the 70s.

Terry's stats (bear in mind this is the 70s):
G | Att Yards Y/A TD | Rec Yards Y/R TD |

| 1976 stl | 12 | 134 537 4.0 3 | 33 388 11.8 4 |
| 1977 stl | 14 | 149 739 5.0 4 | 34 403 11.9 2 |
| 1981 was | 16 | 18 60 3.3 0 | 48 595 12.4 0 |

He made the Pro Bowl in '74, '75 and '77. Of course, this was an era where Cardinals QB Jim Hart was a top QB in the NFL with his 52% completion percentage and 2400 or so yards passing in a 14-game season. You've got to take all these number in context. I'd take Bush getting to the Pro Bowl three of the next five seasons.
