ESPN: Drew Brees was not hero. (1 Viewer)

It wasn't just Brees, it was our offensive line as well. They were blown up in the first half.

It was a team win, but Brees was dynamic when given time on Sunday. Furthermore it is a tribute to Brees' excellence that he was able to overcome the rattling of the first half, a rattling that was by no means his fault. Most quarterbacks would have folded in Brees' position, but he marshaled the offense back in grand fashion.

Honestly Brees effort was heroic but the same can be said for the defense's effort, this was a team win that couldn't have happened without the outstanding plays of many players not named Brees.

He's also the brainiac that told people to sit Brees againts the Giants...and then defended it. :jpshakehead:

Well, I think that list of articles kinda sums things up. He's a complete stats cruncher. He wanted to sit Brees in fantasy football cause the Giants had the #1 pass defense according to the stats. ...and then he rambles on saying something about "Brees was the exception to the projection model" or something along those lines.

Basically, he says that Drew's performance against the Giants was an anomaly, and then he downplays Drew again this week because of a bad first half (where two of the three interceptions weren't even his fault), and doesn't give credit for anything Drew did do.

It looks like he just reads the stats and watches replay clips and passed judgment.

All that needs to be said and remembered is " 6-0 " baby and more to come soon

The Dolphins were getting tremendous pressure and we were still calling those empty backfield drop back passes for too long, making it all the easier for that pressure to get to Drew quicker.

Yeah, this was driving me crazy too. Thank goodness Payton finally adjusted in the second half.

the hype is not equal, even if the talent is,thats showbiz unfortunately. The saints(QB included) played a very unsaintlike tewntynine minutes. The real 09 team showed up in the second half, the WHOLE bunch o d and coaching. I don't think the imposters will make another appearance this season, but,ya never know.

The premise of the article assumes that people are heaping praise upon Brees for leading an amazing comeback. That's not entirely true. Most of us are heaping praise upon Brees for not giving up, playing strong, and providing leadership in a comeback win in which he created a lot of the Saints' mess that they were in. I'm impressed with Brees when he puts up huge in-game numbers. But i'm even more impressed with what he did this past Sunday.

The Media thrive off of creating and exploiting controversy. This is their bread and butter.

I was listening to Gus Katengell on his weekly spot on ESPN97.7 up here in NELA. He said that according to Vilma and others on the Def. Brees talking Payton into letting him go for the TD at the end of the half was the catalyst that got the Def. into believing that the game was not over and that they could win the game still.

Drew's #'s and the end of the game may not show that he was a major factor in the win, but his LEADSHIP was what got them the win!

The Dolphins did blow it.

Mike Martz addressed this argument. Basically, the Dolphins would have kept running it if they could, but the halftime changes by the Saints forced them to change their game plan to one they couldn't execute. They didn't blow it, they were forced into an unfamiliar and weak aspect of their game by the other team enforcing its will.

Perhaps not.. but,

Look at the story lines surrounding the game. Brees going to Miami.. the team that turned him down after a major shoulder injury he got while diving or a fumble in a meaningless game. What does Brees do in Miami? Puts his body on the line more than once. Scores the TD at the end of the half... diving over the line with 11 gigantic men who want nothing more than to hit the quarterback. Throws a block for Reggie on the reverse to get us within 3. Then, Brees tops it off by running in shoulder first and taking a big hit right on that shoulder to score the go ahead touch down.

The man didn't have a great game, but he certainly did everything he could to ensure a win.
