5 years now with the board regulars clamoring to waste infinite picks and money on defense when all the saints had to do was stick to their winning formula of 2009 and 2011.

Stick to what works.

If you have to win every game by scoring 40 points so be it. An ugly win in an a shoot out is better than never-ending crap losses like this with a defense that never improves no matter how much payton invests in it

Would love to hear EJW's take on this now.:spit:

Wait till next draft when we could draft some edge rusher...

And take Leonard Fournette.

We talked about this years ago.

The saints are better off drafting only offense and throwing all their free agent effort at defense or at least trading for proven vets like they did with Hollis Thomas and Vilma.

For as many draft picks they waste on defenders that never pan out they could have pulled off a blockbuster trade for JJ watt by now.

This is beyond hopeless at this point.

The crazy part is we did rely and invest in offense. Biggest FA signing was a Te. Drafted a WR. Line played great. Drew was efficient. Receivers looked good. Backs ran well. 34 points is usually enough for us. It Just wasn't today.

Doesn't really help when that tight end isn't as good as graham. Fleener didnt even look as good as Watson today.

Thomas was ok but the saints can use better weapons than both and better runners to be back on par with 2009 and 2011.

That's weak sauce. The oline held up, skill players on offense had big days with Ingram being his typical average self. Offense was fine your resource theory is no better than some elaborate scheme cooked up by Wile E Cayoyte to catch the road runner. They work better in your head. Not 1 of the 32 teams duplicated your strategy. Have several seats.

There is a depth problem not a single offensive player would have changed that today. I

We're a year off, been saying it keep saying it, defense wins you championships. Gotta keep chipping away at the block.

Very unfair comment about Thomas. In his first game ever he played very well.

Now I agree with you that they should build a amazing o line, give Bree's even more weapons than he have right now and just try to win the game scoring whatever it takes because we will never have a good defense.

If Myles Garrett is on the board take him over Leonard
The same line of thinking that brought them to today and that will in all likelihood result in Payton getting his walking papers if he has another losing season this year.

Hard to feel bad for a guy who wasted so many resourses and opportunities attempting to reinvent his own wheel.:jpshakehead:

Come on, man. Thomas caught 6 passes for 58 yards on 6 targets today, on top of scooping up Snead's fumble to help us put 7 on the board. What else were you expecting?

The receiving corps is extremely young and the top three guys are extremely talented. There's really little room for improvement. Tight end, an argument could be made, and there are some good ones next year.

We still need a defensive end...wait, I just realized that I don't understand what point you're trying to make. The offense put up 500 yards and 34 points.

Zero sacks. We need a defensive end.

Ha. Gotta believe Another player like Jimmy helps in the redzone. Running back still doesn't have star power or consistency. Thomas played admirably but crabtree who i wantec last year did even better

Hate to break it to you but that "one year away" song is getting pretty tired by now when they could have been stockpling more weapons on o to make brees more deadly.

They have been one year away for the last five years now right?:hihi:

Point is it still wasnt enough points.

Saints scored 40+, what, 7 times in 2009? Remember the shootout in Miami?

Fact remains they still have a better shot at winning it all being the best shootout team and #1 in points scored than they ever will have at being a defensive team under payton.

It's just time to face reality.

Kruger really stunk up the joint today. Jordan, too. 2 solo tackles and a QB hit combined. We need a defensive end.

The games aren't finished, but as of right now, we're #2 in the league in scoring. One point behind Oakland. Better defense might have put us at #1.
