Excellent explanation on how very lucky Tom Brady has been in the playoffs (1 Viewer)

Luck is BS. You create your own luck. Sometimes, your ability to get out of your own way uplifts your team, other times you have to be the one to lift others up. Brady won all his rings, and put himself in a position to compete for many more. The same is true of Drew and the Saints. Our SB year was magical, and the ball landed our way more than it didn't -- and we handled our business otherwise. These last few years, little mistakes or missteps, or worrying too much about the referees... all this adds up. We shouldn't be running the same, tired memes about Brady's greatness; rather, we should be focused on minimizing our mistakes and maximizing our potential for next year. Nothing is worse in work, fandom, or life than a lack of accountability.

He's the anti Drew Brees when it comes to the playoffs.

Brady has largely been mediocre in playoff games, with a few exceptions sprinkled in.

Put us in a division with the Bills, Dolphins, & Jets for the last 20 years.

We'd be counting the rings too.

I don't agree with this. The Saints haven't had issues making it to the playoffs, but keep getting bounced out once there.

A weak division makes it easier to get to the playoffs, but it takes a well built and coached team to win once in the playoffs.

It's a known a known fact that that winning the #1 seed nets a strong advantage for making it to the Superbowl. Isn't it something like 90% Superbowl teams were from the #1 seed?

Patriots have had weak division opponents for 20+ years. Meanwhile all of our division opponents made one (or more) Superbowl appearances.

Playing your own division accounts for 6 games of the season. You still have to win the majority of the rest of the games to get number 1. And it's not like they sweep their division rivals every season.

"Because the Patriots have won at almost the exact same rate against the rest of the NFL as they have against their division."

I don't believe that lately saints always find a way to lose to bad teams or they just don't show up or play good/great when it matters most.

Brady is usually the smartest and toughest guy on the field at any given time, but you need a little luck to win a SB.

Yup, and the Saints had a number of balls bounce their way in 2009, too. Luck is part of it. Talent and hard work gets you a ticket to the playoffs, but lady luck has a lot of say as well.

Good patriots teams wouldn't have lost in the first round to the vikings either. This was supposedly one of the saints' best teams
