Baltimore's defense was just as bad against the deep pass as the Saints'.
It will take far more than a new cornerback or two to fix the secondary, and they need to start with the FS position because of it's definition.
Kind of like treating a hemorrhage- you must stop the bleeding first, then fix what's wrong.
What they do to address that doesn't necessarily mean replacing Bullocks; they can also change how they use him.

Well they were actually 20th, so not quite as bad as us. But it is worth noting that the second Ed Reed and Chris McAlister went out for the year, their pass defense, which has been so dominant over the years, went to crap.

Baltimore has a great tandem of CB's. I think Chris Mcalister probably helps matters.

The Linebackers play more of a role for the Safeties than the CBs........ If the Linebackers are doing the Job of stuffing the run and covering the TEs then the Safeties can roam the secondary too help with coverage..... or if not then they have too bite on the play action because the Linebackers are not doing there job.......

Another thing if CBs are that vital too a defense then why are all the good ones being allowed too join other teams.... but the good Linebackers are getting tagged??

Because the tagging process isn't over yet?

Your likely to see every big FA CB tagged except Samuels, and thats just because NE doesn't give big money to anyone, regardless of position.

How many times this season have you seen the opposing QB simply step up into the pocket(Where incidentally there is ZERO push) and get away from a hard charging DE(Smith or Grant)? If the Saints had someone(Ie; Sed Ellis) in the middle that could destroy that pocket and bring pressure up the middle it would automatically make the secondary seem MUCH better.

Far to many times. I'd suppose its one of the reasons Ellis is so popular on the board right now. He'd probably make the single biggest difference of any rookie we could draft. I want a MLB like everyone else (I'm pushing for Mayo in the 2nd), but I think we need to get a dominant DT somehow this offseason for the new MLB to succeed.

The deep pass, not pass defense.

Passes for 40+ (20+ is right next to it and similar)

And like the 2006 and 2007 Saints, they had among the fewest defensive snaps in the league.

Let's say those 15 passes were exactly 40 yards. That's 600 yards right there.
Doing the same to the 20 yard passes (54 for the Saints, 53 for Bal.) that's a staggering 1,080 yards.
Of course it would be nice to just erase those 20+ passes and watch the Saints total yards jump to 4th place, but it won't work that way.

That's a good point about Reed and McAlister, but that can also point to coaching.
