Ben realizes that he has been “Expelled,” and that educators and scientists are being ridiculed, denied tenure and even fired – for the “crime” of merely believing that there might be evidence of “design” in nature, and that perhaps life is not just the result of accidental, random chance.

I don't think there's true randomness or chance in the universe. It's all causality. Cause and effect.

If Ben wants to get any traction with this, he'd better come correct. With something way stronger than what Behe & Co. have.

See the "Global Dimming" thread for how to overcome/overthrow scientific orthodoxy. It can be done, but you've got to do it right and have your **** together.

Which is not to say I hold out much hope for Mr. Stein. Whining that you can't get scientists to consider nonscientific hypotheses is pretty much a nonstarter.

There is evidence of intelligent design.

But I doubt seriously it follows the specifications of most of the world's religions.

As for Stein's movie, ID requires faith in the "designer" to fill in some a lot of blanks. Most scientists don't mess with ID because it's not...science.

Scientists stick to science, things that can be explained by scientific method.

Perhaps there's no real news here....I don't find it surprising that people are persecuted for questioning conventional wisdom (in this case TOE). Do you?
Persecuted?
Right.

Persecuted?
Right.

Did you watch the movie trailer? The fundamental underlying premise is that persecution exists in the scientific community for those who question or challenge Darwinism. Do you disagree that such persecution exits or that anyone would question the justification for the persecution (in other words, it is expected that any scientist who challenges Darwinism should be discredited)? :dunno:

Is it persecution to fail a student that turns in a science report stating that the world is flat? No, the student deserves that big, fat F. Thats what Intelligent Design is. It meets none of the criteria that every scientific theory is supposed to meet. Cry about it all you want.

It isnt falsifiable = ID believers are flat-earthers.

Well, actually, the very nature of science is to argue and try to discredit any view that is contrary to commonly held thought. It is skeptical at its core. And it should be.

FWIW, I like Ben Stein, and I am a creationist by belief.

Let's face it. Intelligent Design was a term cooked up to replace the word Creationism. I would expect any challenge to Darwin's theories to be backed by something other than an individual's faith. The scientific method demands some sort of demonstrable proof. The fossil record goes a long way toward providing that. The ID supporters give us what?

The crux of the ID crowds argument is one of two things..

1. There is no way that nature could have gotten started on its own. It needed help from a "designer".

2. This theory simply says "It's in the Bible."

Now I respect the Creationist crowd because they are the most up front about their beliefs. The ID crowd believes the same things but they remove inconvenient words like "god" and "created" and don't even mention the whole 6 days thing. They are just hiding what they really believe to try to make people think they are saying something different from the creationists.

So, back to persecution. The Jews were persecuted. These so called scientists have a long way to go before they can compare their problems to those of the Jews.

Some people seek every opportunity to find elements of things they can claim are "conventional wisdom" that don't have the overall convenience of "fire hot" and take positions against it just to draw attention to themselves.

Although I'm not sure Ben Stein's one of them.
