GLENDALE, Ariz. — The New Orleans Saints offense found itself in the desert Sunday.
Frustrated after a pair of uncharacteristic performances back-to-back in the past two weeks when the Saints were trying to stay in playoff contention, quarterback Drew Brees remained optimistic, secure in the fact that he has always bounced back from bad performances.
Brees, receiver Brandin Cooks and the rest of the Saints offense unleashed all of that frustration on the Arizona Cardinals' top-ranked defense, out-gunning the Cardinals in a 48-41 shootout that reminded the rest of the NFL how explosive the Saints can be when everything's clicking.
"We'd been disappointed with the last two games, just because it's not our standard," Brees said. "It wasn't anything earth-shattering this week; it wasn't like we made a wholesale change or anything like that. We just got back to ourselves, put execution at a premium."
New Orleans (6-8), despite its status as the No. 1 offense in football, was coming off a pair of duds against Detroit and Tampa Bay, games in which Brees threw no touchdown passes and three interceptions back-to-back for the first time in his illustrious career.
