Based on the little I read, I don't think Cell Phones will ever be allowed to stay on (even though I know quite a few people don't follow the rule), but maybe things more simple will be able to.

Honestly, I still think it's funny that when they won't let people carry on 4 oz of water or a bottle for a baby or a pen knife we all carry on electronics that have radios that could easily (by terror standards) be adapted to jam and interfere. Not that I really want to give them more ideas on being ridiculous with screening.

people leave their ipods and phones on all the time on airplanes, and guess what, not a single one has ever crashed because of it.

Thus is so true. A hacker at the hacker convention showed off an anroid app that he created that would hack a plane and.could fly it into a mountain.

Extremely few and far between. Most planes are using GPS now anyways. If it was a real issue they would have them powered off through the entire flight.

Frankly I never turn them off. I do put my devices in "Airplane mode" but mainly to conserve battery.

Oh, I agree, I believe it was around 50 reported instances.

But, just like anything bad that happens on planes, it's very rare, but you don't want to be on the one that has things going wrong.

Not that it matters, but you can carry on milk or formula for a baby. They just test it first.

FAA to allow use of electronic devices throughout flights

The Federal Aviation Administration announced today that it will let airlines expand passengers' use of portable electronic devices during all phases of flight, possibly by the end of the year.

The expansion will allow most passengers to play games, watch videos and read books on electronic devices during takeoff and landing, but they still will not be allowed to use cellular service on their phones at any time, the FAA said.

The decision comes after a group of experts determined that "most commercial airplanes can tolerate radio interference signals" from the devices, the agency said.

So I think they'll make you be on airplane mode but you wont have to power down and you can continue use.

Delta has already submitted its plan to the FAA and hopes to have it approved to allow for passengers to start using their PEDs by as soon as tomorrow, Nov. 1.
