Saints Falcons fans want OT changed (1 Viewer)

On a serious note, what would have happened if the saints would have ran the clock down to 3 seconds and then kicked the field goal leaving the clock at 0? The OT rules state that both teams get a possession unless the first team gets a touchdown or safety. In this scenario, the 10 minute OT would have expired without the clowns getting a possession and us only scoring a fg.

Good question. Must be game over? What else do you do? Give them the three seconds back?

Im pretty sure if we had won the coin toss and marched down the field, while Brees had to stare and watch from the sideline, you would want OT rules changed too.

No! You don't know me. I am not a whinging Falcons, Vikings or Cowboys fan. So no. We play by the rules and win by the rules. Whining is for losers

No, not true. Your defense has to make a play to give your offense a chance. Here’s an example. In Week 1, we needed a stop against Tampa to give Drew and the offense back the ball. Everyone in the building, including the Bucs organization, knew that if we got the ball back the game was going to overtime. On third and 13, Fitzpatrick scrambled and picked up the first down. Game over. Yes, we would have loved to see our offense have one more shot at it but our defense did not make the play.

No, it was not overtime but the context is the same. If you want a chance to deal, you have to come up with a play to give your team a chance. Whining about it is NOT THAT PLAY! Otherwise, why field a defense or special teams? The argument, as it stands, is give the offense the ball because defense doesn’t matter. That is what you and others are saying and it makes little sense. It would be the same as someone arguing, “But our defense did not get a chance to take the field and force a turnover,” if the offense came out and threw a pick-6. Absurd isn’t it?!!

And for those clamoring for college football overtime rules recognize that you have 100+ players on a team with up to 85 scholarship athletes. In a game that slower and less violent, the risk of injury has a lesser impact than it does at the professional level. The physical strain on players and the concern for safety do not allow for an adoption of rules that can have you playing damn not into perpetuity.

Y’all can blame no one but yourselves for that loss (and maybe Arthur Blank’s best buddy Goodell for the OT rule change after the 2009 NFC Championship). Y’all had 60 minutes to beat us and didn’t; don’t cry y’all didn’t get the ball now. Even if that were the rule, we drive get a touchdown, y’all drive get a touchdown, we drive and get a FG and end it. Not much difference in that. Y’all couldn’t stop Brees all day.

So it wasn’t even guaranteed y’all were going to score anyway; since this overtime rule took effect in 2010, y’all only 4-4 in overtime games where both teams possessed the ball and we gift wrapped y’all two of those wins (Hartley shanking a FG after y’all having possession first in Week 3 2010 and Colston fumbling in Week 1 2014).

But oh well, we can only play with the rules that are written and we’re now 3-1 in overtime games where the the team having the ball first scored a TD. Embrace that suck.
