This vid is a GREAT example of what ticks me off about professional soccer players. Even some of the very best players can only play with one foot. Serves him right for never developing his "weaker" foot to at least the point of being able to kick it 2 feet with even the slightest bit of accuracy.

Just noticed that Korea made it through 3 votes for the 2022 world cup and got 5 votes in the end. How can you vote for Korea with all that's been going on there. Who knows what kind of place it could be in 2022.

Shows how much England must have annoyed them if they only got 2 votes.

I think Korea actually used that as a selling point. They claimed that bringing World Cup soccer to the region it would also bring stability and unity. I agree with your point more, but their pitch was interesting.

I never knew they used that as a reason. I suppose it worked for Berlin in 36

Decent article about Qatar's bid: http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/writers/sid_lowe/09/25/qatar.2022/index.html

I'm not sure how the comments of "if they pull it off" should be reason for them to gain votes. The infrastructure is not there yet. They will end up only playing in 6 cities with 2 stadiums per city (only 5 of these stadiums are built and all of them will need to be expanded as well.) Not to mention numerous other headaches, but hopefully everything will be resolved fully. Its not like they dont have time to sort it out

Also, Louisiana is 10X the size of Qatar.

Yeah cause soccer matches are always peaceful. :covri:

If I'd known that oil and natural gas could buy world cup bids, I would have put in a bid for South Louisiana a long time ago...

Ticket sales in countries used to holding massive sporting events like the US and the UK and Australia are generally handled by national organizations and established companies.

In countries that arent used to it and dont have the infrastructure set up already? A company called "MATCH Hospitality" has been in the ground floor for South Africa, is on the ground floor for Brazil, etc. MATCH Hospitality is partly owned by a Swiss marketing company, Infront Sports & Media. The President and CEO of Infront Sports in media is one Phillipe Blatter.... son of FIFA chairman in charge of selecting World Cup locations.

So he basically just handed his son a massively lucrative contract for ticket sales for the next three World Cups, when if the UK & US had landed them, his sons company wouldnt be able to sell the tickets.

More connections pointing to personal gain being the sole motivation for the WC sites chosen.

Landon Donovan on Twitter:

I have an idea..we play Qatar in a friendly(they can even host it), and the winner gets to host the 2022 WC..wait, do they even have a team?
