Film review: Saints defense lost battle on the edges against the Chiefs
By Nick Underhill -- Advocate
Kenny Vaccaro didn’t feel the same as he does after most games.
“A lot of it looked like it wasn’t great edge setting, guys were running free, we were chasing the ball a lot,” the safety said. “I’m not even sore because it felt like they weren’t playing in the box. It wasn’t a physical game. It was played on the edges.”
Kansas City didn’t have much reason to go anywhere else, especially during the first half. The team was able to rip off run after run around the ends with great success. So, with the Saints struggling on the edges, there wasn’t much reason to pound the ball up the middle.
This vulnerability in the New Orleans defense has been evident at times this season, particularly against the Atlanta Falcons. The Saints have allowed 402 yards around the tackles and to the ends this season on 69 rushes, an average of 5.82 yards per carry, this season.
