The New Orleans Saints (8-2) started the 2020 NFL season 1-2. Not only that, they had given up 34 and 37 points in those two losses. From the fourth to the seventh game of the season, the Saints would go undefeated, but still allow 29 points to the Lions, 27 points to the Chargers, 24 points to the Panthers and 23 points to the Panthers. However, when one looked closer, there was a positive trend: the number of points allowed was shrinking ever so slightly, and for those who paid attention to the fine details, there was less and less of the huge defensive busts of the early weeks.
