Coming into the offseason, the New Orleans Saints gave hints that they were perhaps interested in getting another option in to groom as Drew Brees’ potential successor, meeting with Baker Mayfield, Lamar Jackson, Mason Rudolph.
The team brought in veteran backup Tom Savage to bolster the rotation, but following the draft made waves with the addition of former Ohio State signal caller J.T. Barrett, making this summer’s competition to backup Drew Brees much more compelling.
He brings quite a legacy with him from Columbus to New Orleans.
In his time as the Buckeyes’ starter, Barrett etched his name into both Ohio State and Big Ten league record books, becoming the first three time captain in the program’s 125-plus history, the Big Ten leader in total yardage (12,697), touchdown passes (104), and all purpose touchdowns (147). Among his Buckeyes records, Barrett boasts marks for most wins as a quarterback (38), passing yardage (9,434), and rushing yards by a quarterback (3,263). ...
