I've got a GE microwave with a half function touchpad. Some buttons work, some don't. Per the internet, I've tried to remove and re-engage and clean the ribbon cable that connects the touchpad to the circuit board. This always results in everything again working. But then 20 minutes later it all fails again.

Besides buying a new panel for $70, is there anything else I should be looking for? I know, this has got to be a shot in the dark.

sounds like some loose connections, that work when it's moved around for moment, then doesnt' .
look for cracks in the circuit board, and cold solder joints.. jumper over any cracks.
try replacing that ribbon cable.
and for 70 to keep it going, till next part goes. or 150 ish for new one.. just get the new one.
needless to say, you'd pay more than 150 for someone to fix that control board.
here's a GE for 180 for instance. GE JVM3160DFWW 1.6 CuFt 1000 Watt White Over the Range Microwave Oven | BrandsMart USA
