Florida Principal Out After Viewing Of Michelangelo's 'David' Upsets Parents (1 Viewer)

So people should have the freedom to not follow the rules they disagree with when they take a job (even tho part of being hired is agreeing to follow the rules and regulation of the employer)?

That's asinine
What's asinine is ignoring the fact that I was addressing the "rules" and not the principle's inaction.

This isn't about curriculum, it's about control and I thought we were supposed to be a free country. Freedom of choice is being taken away from many in this country with the approval of many its willfully ignorant citizens.
Freedom to raise your own children how you see fit? The only choice that was taken away here was the parent's choice to decide if they wanted to send their child.

Was just coming to say this very same thing. We may not agree with the parents that complained on what should be considered improper, but as a school you still should have to respect their decisions by requesting permission. It's not the school's responsibility to make those decisions without the parents consent.
Not really. Unless there is a state regulation, the only reason the school was required to notify the parents is because THEY made it a policy. If that policy didn't exist, they would have had no obligation legally

So your definition of freedom means not informing parents and allowing them to make decisions on raising their minor children?

tell me what freedom was taken away here?

Got you. I was under the impression that this was some sort of requirement like sex ed or a field trip. Regardless, they obviously had this policy in place to avoid this very thing.

So, you don't see the problem with children only being exposed to curriculum that meets the approval of their parents? How is that learning? What if those parents have a very narrow point of view?

No I am speaking facts on how it works because I did it for 20 years.
Meanwhile you know nothing about how these things work and have not offered anything of fact and substance....just opinion and rhetoric born of ignorance because you literally know nothing about how this works
I've taught film studies, theatre, and television production in both private and public schools for nearly 15 years. If anybody here knows about this exact thing, it's me.

If their view is so narrow that it creates a detriment to all others, then that parent can always remove their child from the school. However, notifying the parent and allowing them to decide if they want their child to participate with the rest of the class in that particular event takes nothing away from anyone except their own child.

A) "minor children" is redundant, Mr. I Owned a School.
B) The freedom to educate without undue harassment.
Let's see....the guy with 20 years of experience is saying there may be more to this and we don't know enough to pass judgement.

You, who know doesn't know jack about it how these things work and has provided nothing of substance, have made up your mind 100%

My opinion comes from a legal standpoint....yours is strictly ideological.

I would wager that your view of what is considered art is biased by your profession. You obviously find it offensive to call the statue of David "pornographic." I find it silly and narrow-minded, but would stil respect a parents right to feel that way when their children are involved.

Again. I am speaking of the censorship of the curriculum. This is the root cause of the problem. This action, and others that are being written into law around this country, is specifically designed to feed children a certain point of view and keep them oblivious to others.

I thought the whole point of learning was growth! But hey, who says the child has the freedom to grow beyond their parents wishes.

I don't find it offensive, I find it stupid. It demonstrates a deep ignorance of art as well as history. Parents are not subject matter experts. A parent can feel however they want about anything, the school does not have to give that opinion any weight.
