The NHL has it figured out...

Their latest round of testing had ZERO positive results for COVID-19.

They’re about to start back up... and I can’t wait!
Baseball essentially did as well. They started playing and bam it's over.

There are so many differences between baseball and the NFL. Leadership, travel, money to throw at the “problems,” planning, what’s at stake, motivation, number of games, etc.

What happened today in baseball changes nothing with the NFL. If anything, it will give them a cautionary tale.

Not debating whether it is morally right or wrong to play. That’s a different discussion. But as far “will they,” today won’t change anything.

Yet again NFL gets a glory opportunity to see what's working and what's not working for the other leagues and audible.

If they keep their same "kick the can down the road" MO though, they are destined for failure.

They need to have alternative plans that the players and owners agree with and they need it fast.

Can you say what the differences are?

Complete bubbles are impossible. IF we play (big if) whoever gets it the most right probably wins the super bowl. I mean, think about it. Players, their families, trainers, their families, coaches, media. Just takes one slip to get the bug in the door.

And most of the people we are trying to keep in a bubble quietly assume they are invincible.

Sure.

-Money. Lots more of it to spend on protection, protocols, etc.

-Motivation to play (owners in baseball were lukewarm from the beginning and feel they’re losing money regardless).

-One game a week versus 6 or 7.

-One night in a hotel per trip versus multiple nights. Marlins Manager Don Mattingly said yesterday they had real concerns when they were away from their home surroundings.

-Much clearer protocols and plan.

-Time to adjust based on other sports (like MLB’s) problems.

-Time to adjust from game to game.

-Better chance of representative test results because of multiple tests between games (and extra time for incubation periods).

We've had a plethora of cationary tales, but we still end up in the worst position in the world.

Money concern seems like it would increase risk vs decrease

Nfl has at least double the roster of mlb

Nfl is full and continuous contact - no chance at social distancing (speculation is that the catchers were the ones who spread to the other team - that’s just batters staning near a sick player)

The bubble seems to be the safest solution. However, league officials have stated that they are not doing it.

Mainly because they can't do a bubble for 1000+ employees. Covid is a numbers game and the NFL is definitely deep on the wrong side of it even on gameday operations.

It's why I push for the season to be stretched and cut down with bye weeks inbetween every game for there to be a potential cool off period for covid outbreaks

MLS seems to be doing fairly well
They had some cases early on, but I don’t think they’ve had one in 2 weeks
In a bubble on a campus

I think the nfl ‘could’ have done something like this
They could have built 10 nfl caliber fields in Nevada - bought out hotels in Reno, maybe
2 games Friday, 4 games Saturday and Sunday, 2 games Monday
Easily double, but maybe quadruple tv viewership

But alas
