My friends computer harddrive is having some issues. I'm not sure if the HD has died or it has a serious virus. When the HD is plugged in and the computer is started it disables the keyboard and cd-rom. Therefore I can't get into the BIOS or anything. It also does not load windows just freezes on the "Press DEL or F8 for bios options" screen. I attached it to my comptuer, but it freezes up my computer also. I also tried to hang it from my computer as a slave, but it is missing the jumper.

Is there any way that I can:

Format it?

Get a jumper to make it a slave?

Make it a slave another way?

A computer repair shop would probably give you a jumper. Otherwise, I would get a hard drive enclosure and attach it via USB.

You can't usually drop a HD with an operating system installed into another system and expect it to work, because drivers, chipsets, etc require different installations (you should be able to attach it as a slave, though).

See if there is an extra jumper on the CDRom drive, or you might be able to make it the master on the second channel.
