Former New Orleans Saints kicker John Kasay will sign a one-day contract with the Carolina Panthers on Tuesday and retire as a Panther, the Panthers announced Tuesday morning.
The 22-year veteran kicker was an original member of the Panthers when Carolina joined the league in 1995, but his one season with the Saints in 2011 added a major boost to a team in desperate need for a kicker.
Garrett Hartley injured his hip during the 2011 preseason and the Saints signed Kasay as a free agent. Hartley ended up on injured reserve, and all Kasay did was compile 147 points for the Saints, the most points in a single season for Kasay in his career. Kasay converted on nearly 83 percent of his kicks in 2011 helping the Saints to a 13-3 record.
