Two central figures in the New Orleans Saints bounty scandal that led to suspensions, including a season-long one for head coach Sean Payton, are together again with the New York Jets. The Jets on announced their full staff under new coach Adam Gase on Friday (Feb. 8), and among the appointments are defensive coordinator Gregg Williams and Joe Vitt, senior defensive assistant and outside linebackers coach.
Williams was the Saints defensive coordinator from 2009, the season that ended with New Orleans winning the Super Bowl, through 2011. The NFL suspended him indefinitely after determining that the Saints paid bonuses for injuring opposing team players. Williams was reinstated after sitting out a year.
Vitt, who is Gase’s father-in-law, was the assistant head coach and linebackers coach for the Saints and testified against Williams. He was suspended the first six games of the 2012 season....
