I can't see Payton doing it.

His explanation of things is often disjointed, incomplete and somewhat convoluted.

If Payton were to “retire” and take a year off, wouldn’t the Saints retain his rights?

The rumors are all about how he could take a year off and then go coach a different team, but he is under contract.

I know Barry Sanders wanted to play for a team other than Detroit… and then he retired… and any time there was talk about him coming back, the Lions always said they would refuse to give up his rights.

How exactly would this work?

Would the Saints at least be able to trade CSP or get something in return?
