I know he's been toasted a few times but for the most part Fred Thomas plays pretty D$%$ tough. He performs like our defense does as a whole. Pretty Stout for the majority of the game with one or two slip ups giving up big plays.

Also, every time he's been burnt its been on a busted play or man coverage when he slips.

I was thinking the same thing. Too bad he can't catch a cold. He does get too much bad press expecially from this board.

Man, I really try to stay away from bashing Saints, but I don't see how you can say he's had a good year. He gets sucked into double moves every game for big plays. Of course, Josh Bullocks bites on the play-action everytime, so Freddie T. gets no help.

As much faith I have in the Saints my faith in Fred is just the opposite I'd rather see us in third and Short on D then third and long because of Thomas.

Fred Thomas, because of his age, lacks the necessary recovery speed to cover one-on-one guys like Chad Johnson. This is not really remarkable. Most CBs in the NFL can't cover Chad Johnson one-on-one. Fred Thomas does well for us considering the point he is at in his career.

We ask Fred Thomas to take a beating for us. We give him no help even though most anyone would get toasted by Stallworth. We ask him to risk getting burnt, forget about it, and continue to play tough. He does it without complaint.

Honestly i've always felt people need to lay off on Fred Thomas. Until we get into the offseason he is what we have and it's not as bad as you think it is because it could be a lot worse then Freddie T.

Decent in run support, gotten burned since he got injured earlier this year. He's been giving up the big play, but if he was that bad, he'd give up more than 1 or 2 big plays a game. He's just old and had been hurt.

TPS

What amazes me about Fred Thomas is how he can have a bad play and not dwell on it, the tipped ball the feel into T.O's hand or the Stallworth Catch on Saturday. He is who we have and I like to think positive things about him.

The scheme we run is EXTREMELY demanding on CBs. Freddie T has gutted this season out for us. Seriously, he deserves our gratitude, though I know theres no chance he'll get it :(

Fred Thomas is like the Anti - Devery Henderson. He may cause some short incompletions but he is good for game changing big plays on offense. Since I think Devery Henderson is good for our team, I think Fred Thomas is good for our opponents. I think Fred Thomas should be a nickel back.

But maybe I am wrong. If so, we need the ends to get more pressure or the safeties to improve. Or perhaps our who scheme asks everybody else to make up for the lack of physical ability of our linebackers.

While he has been burned this year, I think he is giving everything he has on the field. You can't ask for more than that. It isn't as if he isn't playing up to his potential cough*Deangelo Hall*cough.

Like I said, part of the problem is that the safeties are leaving him out to dry. But i'm just saying, let's call it what it is. A tough year. I personally think Freddie T.'s been a great Saint for many years now. And I like that he heads out there week in and week out and takes the blame when things go bad. But that doesn't erase the fact that he gives up huge, potentially disastrous plays for the Saints virtually every single game. All things considered, I think people HAVE laid off FT. If he were playing for any NFC East team, he'd be boo'd out of the stadium. My point is....he is not having a good year IMO.

Fred Thomas get beats by everyone. Not just Chad Johnson. Wake up people.

The thing is though is you know what you have in Fred Thomas. He is very consistant, even if it's consistantly bad at some things.

When Gibbs drew up the defensive gameplan and called for Freddie T to cover Stallworth man-to-man there was no question FT would eventually get beat. You knew it. No way it was a suprise. Therefore that Gibbs had FT cover Stallworth one-on-one means it was a calculated risk.

What i'm saying is while he gives up big plays they can't be considered disasterous because they have to have been expected. That's the price of the aggressive defense we play. We give up big plays. Big runs, big passes, etc.

I think everyone needs to go ahead and accept the Bears will get 1 or 2 big play touchdowns and not much else in terms fo scoring. Thats the nature of our defense.

It has puzzled me this season. Freddie has gotten burned over and over again, yet I still like him as a player. I guess because of what Sandman said -- you know he's out there leaving it all on the field.

It's just at this point in his career, he is what he is.
