Full Text of Sermon by Obama's Pastor (Audacity to Hope, from 1990) (1 Viewer)

here we go again....
first of all no one said obama said it.... the good rev. said it....
and what he said can be taken no other way......it very plain what he ment.

if you think he ment something else please tell us, instead of going on the rants.

I think it was all sarcasm....right?

i hope so ,, but like i said. if he thinks the good rev. statement ment something else i would like to here it...

Here's my thought. Good sermon, inspiring. This is what is good... great in black ( and black feminist) theology. The unfortunate flip side is the struggle against the "powers" of this earth is the message of the kingdom in this theology. One must struggle against the powers "as Christ did" to bring about the kingdom of heaven.

What's left out is the necessity of the sacrifice of Jesus for our restoration with God. In black feminist theology, Christ's death is an example for us, not in our place, but for us to observe.

I like some of what Reverend Wright has to offer, but I think his emphasis on the stuggle against the powers of this world has taken over and uprooted the simple faith (hope) in God to provide our future home. That was the theology of Louis Armstrong and the black slave church. You can hear it in his music.

It's a good sermon; but a little too divisive and socialistic for my tastes.

Our world cares more about bombs for the enemy than about bread for the hungry. This world is still more concerned about the color of skin than it is about the content of character—a world more finicky about what's on the outside of your head than about the quality of your education or what's inside your head. That is the world on which this woman sits.

I agree, Wright seems to be excluding war mongers & racists here. People who prefer bombs to bread are people, too. And if Jesus didn't want us to judge each other based on skin color, why would he make so many different ones? Wright clearly is a divider and not a uniter.

yes it was sarcasm....as for his question...i think wright's statements mean exactly what wright says, i just don't think those statements are "racist".....but he does and there is no changing his mind as evidence of his statment "there is no other way to look at them(the statemments)"...so.........(to be continued)

since you don't or refuse to even try to understand what i say,...ever...i am only going to reply to you and your post with rap lyrics...in the event that you don't know what said lyrics mean(my guess would be that that will be often) you can ask more knowlegable posters or jion the rappers website fans list to find out what said lyrics mean......(more to come)

You can try to change it if you want ....i really don't care...but that is not what you asked ...read your own post...note how you capitalized "ANY"........well ...sorry but he did.
Spin it any way you want. Again, I really don't care.
(As in: is he exaggerating and getting overly theatrical to grab their attention and motivate them to change their lives, or is he actually trying to inspire violent revolt?) And has Obama shown ANY sign of supporting the latter even slightly?
OK Shockmo I directly cut & pasted from my own post to make this simple for you. There is no spin going on here, just English Grammar 101.
Are you aware of the correct use of the word "LATTER?" In my sentence above "latter" by proper use would refer to "violent revolt."

OK still with me? If, as you say, you judge by action, not words, and if ,as you say, Barrack giving $$ to the church shows support for "violent revolt," then what ACTION , NOT WORDS by the church are you characterizing as "violent revolt?"

Following your "logic", either Barack or the Church would have to have performed something akin to "violent revolt"

Unless you have an agenda......
