if my kid is playing football at school and the defender rips his helmet off and hits him one square time with the crown of the helmet and paralyzes my kid is THAT assault with a deadly weapon? the result doesn't matter if the intent is the same.

I also think it's perfectly ok if someone like me would instead go after the guy who swung. All's fair in war at that point.

So I get why the NFL did what they did, but I simply am not going to chastise Pouncey for how he reacted.

But the “going after the guy” part had already happened. He had been tackled, punched, and was restrained on the ground at that point.

To do something as violent and dangerous as kicking a defenseless person in the head, especially at that point in the incident, is not moral or defensible.

I agree Rudolph should be fined for his action but not suspended. Players fight all the time. It's who does what matters. Really if Garrett did not swing that helmet, I think neither should be suspended.

Hitting a guy on the head with a helmet, after ripping said helmet off, is not football. That is a street fight. It was totally uncalled for. It was "barbaric" in the full sense of the word. No excuse.

You’re correct, but I think Fury was saying that Pouncey not being suspended would’ve set off a bad precedent, making it ok to retaliate by kicking.

Actually, yes. But that’s beside the point. The point is, Pouncey punched and kicked a guy in the head. He deserves the suspension that he received.

smh... listen, 1 word comes to mind right now, MANIAC!.. I mean really think about , if you or me were to walk outside and smack someone upside the head, with a stick, a bat, a chair or whatever, not only would we be in jail by now, but awaiting sentance.. IMO, he shoulda' been escorted off the field in HANDCUFFS!.. meanwhile, while watching the NFLN, they have reporters annointing this guy like he's this really nice guy, does well with the community, blah blah blah, BUT, he almost killed a man for chrissakes!... Lucky, and I mean lucky, that the soft padded part of the helmet is what hit MR, a couple inches lower, to the right, it woulda' been murder on Thursday Night!.. ya know, i'm still just sick over this, so I have nothing more to say, just in shock.. suspension should be the least of MG's worries..

Is this serious, yes.
Should anyone be arrested - no. They are in a violent sport - they just took it beyond the rules.
Did anyone really get hurt - no. No permanent or career-threatening injuries happened. (no blood, no foul)

Equally? That's laughable. Hence why Garrett was suspended indefinitely while Rudolph, who wasn't innocent, just got fined. I think the NFL's penalties were about right.

And Garrett could be in legal hot water if Rudolph wants to press charges. He's lucky there wasn't a severe injury, which more than likely would lead to serious jail time.
