Though it was a loss, from the Cowboys perspective, this has to be seen as a respectable one for a coach who took over 3 games ago. Had there not been a coaching regime change and we had gone up 17 - 0 in the first quarter, the game probably would have continued out of hand for them.

Jerry would be hard pressed to find a coach with a better knowledge of offensive strategy. Guys like Sean Payton are not so easy to find, yet Jason Garrett seems to be cut from the same cloth. Obviously he will be more aware of the Cowboys' strengths and weaknesses more than if some new guy is brought in and that could mean a quicker turnaround for Dallas.

No, I don't want to see an improved Dallas team in the future, but Jerry could certainly do a lot worse than who he's got right now. I guess the bigger question might be how well Jason and Jerry gets along in Big D. That will determine how much rein Garrett will get to run the team. This is what may make the biggest difference in the level of success for the Pokes in the future.

I think he (Garrett) as earned a shot IMHO. But I still think Jerry Jones tries to make a splash and hire a coach like Gruden (no way he gets Cowher, with JJ having to have his hands in everything). But I think JJ is gonna go for the "big name" hire, rather than the "best for his current team" hire. Seems like his M.O.

It's sad reading the Cowboys forum.

One loss and half of them want Garrett fired on the spot. Did they really think the Cowboys were going undefeated the rest of the season?

Garret's piss poor defensive coordinator and Roy Williams had more to do with that loss then anything. Newman getting beat deep didn't help matters.

And there were people here who wanted Drew benched earlier in the season, a lot of things are said in the heat of the moment. That was a terribly heartbreaking way to lose a game for the Cowboy's, and I'm so happy it was us that gave it to them.

Our game with them is over. I don't need to hear/see anything about the Cowboys until we play them again.

The two words "BENCH" and "DREW" shouldn't even be aloud in the same sentence. Unless, we're up by 17+ with 2 minutes left in a game!!

I'm glad that he's back to hitting field goals. But let's cool the head coach stuff. If he hadn't have missed a chip shot in the game against the falcons, we'd be in first place.

If the Bengals staff gets bounced I could see Zimmer back in Dallas.

Garrett certainly didn't help his chances in my eyes either. He made several huge errors -

1. Accepting the penalty on third down, giving Brees another chance. You never give Brees another chance. He made them pay.

2. Garrett's D staff leaving Robert Meachem in single coverage on third and ten. The Cowboys gambled that the Saints would only throw short. Have they never seen Sean Payton coach?

3. Taking his unused timeouts at the end of the game. Bush league, they'd lost there was no reason to prolong the game.

Garrett made some major mistakes, had the Refs not helped him along it would've gotten ugly.

Ti Rider,

Those are tactical things, and yes they are mistakes, but what I was talking about was the general composure of the team after starting off 17 points in the hole. They persisted and almost came back. I am just saying, that by keeping the team in the game, he showed something.

I don't know whether Jerry Jones will keep Garrett as his HC for the next full season or not.

One thing I do know, however, is that the Cowboys have an idiot for a GM. And Jones can fix that easily by firing himself, and hiring someone who knows something about football.

On another subject, Jim Mora Jr; before the season started; (he is not actually a junior, his middle name is different from his old man's); anyway, Mora predicted the Cowboys would beat the Saints on Thanksgiving Day BEFORE the season actually started. That is asinine when two good teams would be playing (I can see it maybe if one team was expected to be good, and the other expected to be lousy).

Glad his idiotic prediction did not come true.

Garrett will be the HC next year but he has alot of learning to do. Jerry will not let him go somewhere else because Garrett is a. smart, b. young, c. good footbal pedigree, d. has a long relationship with him (and his family), e. he has the players prepared, on edge, and playing for him.

Jerry will suffer through a few losses as Garrett learns the HC job before he brings in someone he does not know at this point.

With that said, Garrett's inexperience gave the saints enough to win this game. The play call on the last set of downs was the worse I have seen. With 2 TO and only needing 5-10 yds, he never attacked the middle of the field. He also never gave Bryant a chance to use his height against our DB's. Thank you Garrett!

Jurrah should have kept Wade as the DC if it didn't undermine Garret as HC.

I wouldn't be surprised to see Garrett enjoy some success as HC. He admires Payton a lot and I'm sure he's already made some calls. Seems like a bright guy who recognized another bright guy and made the smart choice to emulate him.
