Gene Hackman has died along with wife and dog (Merged) (50 Viewers)

Was shocked to wake up to this this morning. Tragic loss which, like others mentioned, is likely carbon monoxide poisoning.

I have heard that all my life, that Copeland named his restaurant after the French Connection guy and not the animated sailor.. but i was never sure of its veracity (?)
Don’t just take my word for it.

He reopened his restaurant as “Popeyes” — named for Gene Hackman’s hard-boiled police detective Popeye Doyle from the 1971 film The French Connection — and started serving the authentic New Orleans-style spicy chicken that is famous today.

I haven't read any of them but he is (damn...was) an accomplished author as well with several novels under his belt

I believe most are civil war themed

He and Robert Duvall were 1A/1B as the preeminent character actors of that generation (maybe any generation)
Hoosiers (though he was the lead in that) and Unforgiven

Yup, I would throw Redford in there as well....RIP to a truly great one, his role in Hoosiers is one of the best, most convincing performances I've ever seen on screen.....

Hackman has (damn...had) a lot of great roles in great movies

He is talked about as a great actor but seems to rarely mentioned in conversations about great actors

He isn't talked about the same way DeNiro, Pacino, Day-Lewis and others are

Saw Hoosiers for the first time during the pandemic. Herad about it forever but never watched it until then

Loved it, wish I watched it sooner

Hackman said that his favorite role/movie of his was Scarecrow with Al Pacino

Which I've never seen but the DVD had been on my shelf for probably 20 years

Think I'll bust it out and watch in his honor

Great movie, seen it numerous times over the years, Barbara Hershey and Dennis Hopper are great also....the imagery, the bleakness, and that one thing that gives everyone in that small community....hope....it felt real to me which is something I can't say about many movies....

What is the first film that you think of when y’all think of Hackman ? For me it’s probably Superman, then Unforgiven, then No Way Out, then Runaway Jury with Hoffman, then The Firm .
All I know is that he was an actor.

This has taken a really bad turn. I thought it was just an accidental tragedy. It's gonna be worse. It wasn't carbon monoxide.

Yeah, the placement of the bodies alone as described in the article is weird.

so are we thinking suicide pact, murder/sucide, him dying and her not wanting to live without him?
witht he pills it could be any of those. sounds like the dog either got hold of the pills or maybe they have been dead for long enough where the dog died from no water?
