JACKSON, Ga. (AP) — The execution of a Georgia man who killed a fellow prisoner in 1990 was halted Tuesday at the last minute so courts could consider claims that he's mentally disabled and other issues.

Georgia execution halted at the last minute - Yahoo! News

Does it really take 20 years to find out if someone has mental handicaps? Also, isn't it kind of ironic, the guy was given life for shooting his girlfriend. Assuming she was a regular chick, was her life worth any less than the inmate this guy killed to get death row. I understand plea bargains and all that, however, since when is killing an inmate worse than killing a regular person. Maybe I should post this in the opinions others wont agree with thread...

So inmates are not regular people and their lives hold less value than people not in prison?

No, they're inmates.......

Actually, you remember all those inmates on the Broad St. overpass during Katrina, those "regular people" were taken care of, they were given a roof over their heads and three square meals.... Unlike the regular people at the Dome....

Yeah, that was a liability issue. Those inmates had no chance to evacuate unlike the people at the dome.

saying that the womans life is not worth less is not the same as saying the inmates life is worth less. Just sayin.

Saying inmates are not "regular people" devalues them. I read (edit) his post to have a meaning that the inmates life held less worth than a "regular person."

I see your point about the term "regular." Was not my post at any rate. I just took the OP to be pointing out the irony that you get life for crime outside of prison and death row for one inside. But as he pointed out himself, these things just happen based on circumstances and the particular attorneys, judge and/or jury.

I look at it more like he got life for the first murder, death for the second. At that point he is a repeat offender.

Na. I was thinking if the guy is deemed mentally deficient, shouldn't he be in some psyche ward and not jail?

depends on if prison is meant to punish or reform.

If this guy had been living in Pakistan, he would have been dead already due to a drone strike(including 4-6 innocent people living with or around him).
