Gerald Ford....dead [Merged!] (1 Viewer)

Just heard and came here to post but saw this first.

Pres. Gerald Ford dies.

Press release by wife betty to all news agencies.

He lived a long life. I don't know much about him as a politician, other than his term is when we pulled out of Vietnam.

Don't know how anybody could really love or hate him (not including friends and family). Did his 2 years, stayed out of much trouble, very low key ex-President.

Gosh- Doesn't it make you feel nostalgiac when a President dies?? I felt like there should've been a "Breaking News" or "Special Bulletin", but in flipping channels for the last couple of hours, I didn't see anything. I first saw the news on Yahoo- my how times have changed. Still, there's nothing like a President dying to make you feel like an American, in a weird sort of way.....

He was a good man. He brought the country out of turmoil and back into healing and economic expansion....easier said than done, but, he did it. A little earlier than my generation, as far as recollection, but, sometimes the quiet, simple leaders do much more than people realize, at that moment.

Ford issued a pardon before Nixon was convicted or even brought to trial. No justice was rendered by this action. I liked two things about Ford; his vetos, and his ex-Presidency devoted to corporate boards and golf. All Presidents should spend their post-executive years like this.

And there was no economic expansion during his term. He was as clueless as were the other Presidents of that decade. Paul Volcker saved this nation from economic "stagflation".

I'd suggest you delete your post because you have absolutely no idea what you are saying.
The only thing that Gerald Ford accomplished as POTUS was make Chevy Chase's 15 minutes of fame last a little longer.

WDSU broke in on Leno and had the breaking news.

I liked President Ford. He was the feel good guy we needed in the White House after the criminal years (and 4 years before the criminals got back in under President Reagan).

He did a nice series of lectures around the country with President Carter in the late 80's, early 90's and always was one of my favorite presidents from that era (because he was at least honest). The rap on Ford was that he was somewhat of a bonehead. But alas, he was still a nice guy.

RIP President Ford.

Ford was a good man brought into a very tough situation, after the corruption of the Nixon Administration, he was a breath of fresh air. He was appointed VP after Spiro Agnew resigned because of corruption charges, the GOP wanted somebody squeaky clean and that was Gerald Ford. After Nixon resigned he became President but unfortunately the stench of Nixon Admin. was too strong and Ford lost his re-election bid to Jimmy Carter and that is when the country REALLY started going downhill.
