Remember that play on the Saints' last offensive snap of the game when Chase Blackburn tackled backup QB Mark Brunell for a sack? The defensive highlight of the game, perhaps.

Well, upon further review ...

The Elias Sports Bureau took a second look at the play (not many took a first look to be honest) and decided that no sack should be credited and that Brunell should have been credited with a rush of minus-9 yards.
That changes a few totals. The Giants actually gave up 369 passing yards in the game instead of the 360 they thought they did. But they also lowered their rushing yards allowed from 133 to 124.

LOL

Dang, there goes our RYPG avg!

Anyway, I'm rewatching the game right now and it is hilarious watching how many times the Giants secondary looks at each other with their hands outstretched saying to each other "I thought you had him?"

whether a QB is trying to run or pass...if he is behind the line of scrimmage and hasn't gotten rid of the ball....and gets tackled...IMO it should be a sack.

I noticed they started getting flustered around 3:24 left in the 1st quarter. :worthy:

And yet Michael Strahan's bogus sack where Favre crumpled in front of him for the record still stands.

They didn't lose it. It was removed 10-18-09 and is on display in the Superdome. They may visit it any time.

That's great unless the definition of a sack is a tackle behind the LOS on a pass play. Tackle for losses (TFL) are used to keep tabs of lost yards on run plays. Seems like they differ to me.

"To be considered a sack the quarterback must intend to throw a forward pass. If the play is designed for the quarterback to rush the ball, any loss is subtracted from the quarterback's rushing total. If the quarterback's intent is not obvious statisticians use certain criteria, such as the offensive line blocking scheme, to decide. Other unique situations where a loss reduces a quarterback's rushing total (not a sack) are "kneel downs" (used to run time off the game clock), and aborted plays, such as a fumbled snap that the quarterback falls on to maintain possession."

So, I guess this means they determined that Mark Brunell was doing a designed run on that play, he never intended to pass the ball.
